=) "Ron Van Horne, Reader's comments Equal funding for equal care Editors Note: This is a copy of a letter sent to Health Minister Murray Elston, Premier David Peterson, Minister for Senior Citizens' Affairs and M.P.P. Allan MacLean. Dear Editor: I am a Health Care Aid in a privately owned nurs- ing home. Our standards are very high, and our quality of care is very high. If we are going to maintain these high standards of quality care, government funding is going to have to be equally dispersed bet- ween government-run homes and _ privately- owned homes. A large number of our residents require total nur- sing care. Meaning, they have to be bathed, dressed, toileted and fed. In order for us to provide the care that is needed it is going to take more staff and more nursing hours. But it seems that the funding is not available to us. We need Euchreama a success Dear Editor: Big Sisters Association of Huronia would like to say "thank you" to all the dedicated euchre players and their supportive spon- sors who made our Euchreama, held May 8 at "the Athenian Hall, a suc- cessful fund-raising event. Special gratitude goes to the local businesses and in- dividuals who generously donated door prizes and cash prizes. They are: Hair' Waves, Brennan's Reef, Wye Marsh, Creative Cuts, Garnet Joynt, Win Drug Mart, Rolfoto, Ken Cote Super Save, Pillsbury, Claudette Lacroix, McDonald's Restaurant, Lamers Paint & Wallpaper, Ailyn Kelly, Jan Gilbert, Up Swing Productions, Herb Robertson and Lina Glazin. We are also grateful to the following for donations of facilities, supplies, food, services and special talents: Jim Meridis, Redwin Graphics, Paul Moore, Brad Robinson, Leslie Lamb, Michael Kurrie, Monica Kurrie, Theresa McConkey, Carol Rawlins, Mary Jarman, Marg Dalziel, Marlynn Specialties, Bill Chenier, Carole Phillips, David Wright, Murray Moore, Penetang Bottling, Howard Markham, McDonald's Restaurant, CKMP's Mike Phillips and Richard Stewart, Big Sister Membership, and the Board Members of Big Sisters Association. The tournament's first- prize $100 winners were Marietta Emory and Audrey Sherwood (73 points). Second prize of $50 each went to Jennie Palmer and Blanche Zelisney (66 points). Third prize of $25 each went to Barbara MacLen- nan and Lee Hynd (65 points). The 50/50 draw ticket in the amount of $23 was won by Rob Stubbins, who generously donated most of the amount back. Claus and Dienna Abel were rewarded for their outstan- ding performances in ob- taining sponsor money Thank you On behalf of the 1987 Portarama Board, I wish to thank all of the volunteers who came forward to cook at our giant B.B.Q. and at our Pancake Breakfast. Without your support this year's Portarama could not have been the huge success that it was. Yours truly Donna Jackson with a cheque in the amount of $50 each. They, in turn, signed one back in support of the event. Total community sup- port of this type is what made the Euchreama possible, as well as a suc- cessful and fun event for all who participated in any way. The Big and Little Sisters thank you once more for your ongoing support. Sincerely, Big Sisters Assoc. of Huronia Sue Blake, President equal staffing as a government-run home, and we deserve equal wages as a government-run home. There just aren't enough hours in a day and it is the resident who suffers in the long run. This is supposed to be an equal land with equal op- portunities and equal rights. How do you figure a government-run home deserves more money than a privately-owned home? When we both do the same care? We give our support to the government. Now & the residents, their families and the staff are asking for some support from the government. Sincerely Susan Dumais H.C.A. 50th anniversary John and Anne Adamson held a 50th wedding anniversary party on the weekend at the Budd Watson Gallery in Midland.
