Psychic meets psychic There were no less than four qualified psychics at the psychic fair in the Mountain- view Mall last Wednesday to Saturday. Here, Psychics serve supernatural market The middle of the Moun- tainview Mall became a gateway to the super- natural last week. Three psychics had set up in the mall to provide quick service for those wishing to see beyond the boundaries of everyday life. While many people are skeptical of the whole field of palm reading, tarot cards and clairvoyance, a quick look at the list of pay- ing customers attracted to the fair tells a different story. While many are dead-set against this kind of thing, there are also many who (for a variety of reasons) love to partake. Anyone who went to the psychic fair at the mall last week would be introduced to one of three psychics: Brian Patrick, "John'"' or Maria Christina Lafontaine. Tourism is still on the rise, says Baker According to the general manager of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, tourism is still on the rise. From July 6 to 12, 1,809 visitors signed in at the two Chamber locations. This compares to 856 visitors in the same period last year. Chamber GM Carol Baker says that the in- crease in tourists is certain- ly visible on King Street and most attractions are also reporting an increase in visitations. As it happened, the psychics' promoter in- troduced Brian Patrick to the Times reporter. Patrick studied his craft at psychic institutes in London and also in other parts of Europe including England, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Patrick picks up sensa- tions quickly through palm reading. He uses a magni- fying glass to pick up the details of the palm lines. Most of the time, Patrick makes his living travelling from shopping mall to shopping mall, meeting all sorts of Canadians and ex- periencing the "psychic at- psychic Brian Patrick poses with co-worker Maria Christina Lafontaine. Patrick has been mosphere" of different communities. "Every town has its own energy," he says. "Midland is charged with energy but still tranquil. There are a lot of creative people here."' Despite the sometimes noisy atmosphere of the mall, Patrick says he can concentrate on his craft because "I operate on a higher level.'"' But he prefers to call himself a "psychic counsellor" rather than a "fortune teller."' "The future is still up to the individual," he said. During the next few months, a_ three-person team will be working vigorously to complete the first phase of the program. By the fall, Development Officer Ron Mills anticipates most of the data collected will be on line on his department's new computer system.
