The Cup is presented annually to the winner of the International 14 two-man dinghy races. The two day event involved 32 competitors in 16 boats divided into three groups. The top five boats competed in A Fleet, while the next seven competed in B Fleet. Fleet C was restricted to Asymetrical types that have as yet to be approved by the world association. Four races were held Saturday and the final two races were held Sunday. Each race con- sisted of six one mile legs. The winner of A Fleet was Jamie Kidd, the current World Champion who was assessed just 7 and a half points. Kidd placed first in two races, second in three and seventh in his final race. Second in A Fleet was Tim Walsh with 18 points, followed by Pat Roulestone with 22. George Hughes emerged the victor in B Fleet with 26 points. Stuart Martin trailed with 32. Regatta organizer, Tom Payne, formerly of Midland, finished third well back at 44 points. In the Asymmetrical Class, John Bleasby easily sailed to victory with finishes of 8-1-1-2-5-1 for a total of nine and a quarter points. All participants held high praise for the Midland facilities and all expressed an in- terest in returning. Oranizer, Tom Payne was ably assisted with a cast of volunteers including Ted Symons, Basil and Jill Clark, Harvey and Marg Payne, John Bishop, and Jennifer and Sarah Borthwick. Mastermind Former Midland resident, Tom Payne,was the mastermind behind the weekend's Inter- national 14 dinghy regatta held in Midland Bay. Thirty-four competitors vying for four spots on the world team competed in the two- day event. The world championships will take place next month in Japan.
