Club is looking for town squares Leading the edge of the square dancing revitaliza- tion in Midland is the Midland Grand Squares, a young club by standards but with a doe-see-doe future ahead of it. The Grand Squares have been getting together at Huron Park Public School on Robert Street on Friday nights from 7:30 to 10 for about a year and a half now. In that time they peaked at about 50 members and now dropped down a bit to 30. Club spokesman Bob Harris says the Squares need another five couples to keep it going. "If you don't know how to dance we'll teach you," said Harris, adding that the group will welcome square dancers of all ages. This square dancing is a bit different from the tradi- tidnal style. The music is more modern, as are the dance steps, says Harris. 'Rather than the old-time fiddling stuff, you can dance to stuff you hear on the radio today," he said. In hopes of bringing more people into the fold, the dancing club will be ap- pearing in the middle of the Mountainview Mall on Thursday nights between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. for the next two weeks. They will be there both this Thursday and next performing in front of shoppers. Last week a large crowd gathered every time the Grand Squares turned up the tunes and professional caller Dean Fisher of Coll- ingwood turned on his microphone. About 16 dancers demonstrated the fun and laughs of square dancing, making a few boo-boos but laughing it off with each other. Gignac appeared in court again Lillian Gignac of Midland will appear again in court in Barrie on Sept. 4. She has appeared for the purpose of a date for her trial on arson charges be- ing set a number of times since her arrest, most recently last Friday. Gignac, 35, was charged IW on Dec. 31, 1986, with set- ting fire to St. Margaret's Catholic Church. She is charged also with setting fire to a Fifth Street house last Nov. 27. Gignac has been kept at the Penetanguishene Men- tal Health Centre since her arrest.
