Children's Aid needs volunteers to drive Even though there has been a boom the last two years in innovative and much-needed services for children and families in the county, they don't do much good if you can't get to them. So the Children's Aid Society of Midland has taken up the cause and set up a program to supply volunteer drivers. But "due to the number of programs and a shortage of drivers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to en- sure that children get to the treatment they need in order to help them cope with the problems they have encountered," says a press release issued by the society. The release notes that "transportation to the various programs for the children has become a serious issue." The demand for the new programs has been steadi- ly increasing, according to Children's Aid, but they are not '"'being completely utilized." Volunteer drivers will receive their mileage and out of pocket expenses for any assignment they per- form. The time require- ment varies but usually in- volves one trip per week. Anyone who can help is asked to call the Children's Aid Society at 526-9341 or drop in to 578 King Street in Midland. Laneway will be closed soon The lane on the east side of St. Margaret's Church is going to be closed. A new rectory will be built near- by. The former lane will be a driveway to the rectory. The Town of Midland has owned the lane since early in this century. Once the closing of the lane is advertised, the land will be conveyed to the church.
