School team wins tennis Midland Secondary School enjoyed a great deal of success at the Simcoe North Tennis Champion- ships last week in Orillia. MSS finished with a record of 16 wins and on- ly six loses winning the mixed doubles and ladies doubles titles. The team now advances to the Georgian Bay Secon- dary School Association tourney tomorrow in Collingwood. Gigi Worts and Brian Milligan dominated the field in Mixed Doubles competition winning the finals 8-0. Jill Duggan and Chris King, also of MSS placed third. In ladies doubles, it was an all Midland final pitting last years champions, Karen Graham-Monique Armstrong, against the ex- cellent first year duo of Cheri Palmer and Kathrine Styles. Graham-Armstrong pulled out an 8-4 win for their second title in a row. In girls' singles matches, Jennifer Currie placed third and Adele Lisi fourth. Other members of the MSS tennis team are Scott Bales-Sean Lavin and Kurt Jefferies-John Nicholson in boys' doubles, with John Gibson and Matt Gervan in boys' singles. Basketballers victorious The Lady Marauders of MSS swept all three con- tests against Twin Lakes of Orillia last Thursday in Simcoe County High School Basketball held at Midland. In the Midget tussle a scrappy first half found MSS ahead 10-6 thanks to key baskets by Tanya Copeland and timely foul Coldwater bridge shots by Jennifer Schroeder. Aggressive defense by the Midland crew widened the margin in the second half due to strong ball-handling by Stephanie Blow and Kate Gadd. A late Twin Lakes surge was squelched by a Tanya Moreau intercep- pressure to Cause many turnovers and a 22-9 halftime lead. Strong re- bounding by Jennifer Cur- rie and outstanding inside play by Jennie Hawkins featured a second half totally dominated by the Marauders. In the Senior game; an 8-4 first quarter looked more like hockey than basketball as the goalies made many fine saves.
