Lots sell fast in Harbour Building lots offered by Victoria Harbour are sell- ing so briskly that the village council is talking about opening more land for development. The council was told at its meeting last week that 22 of the 28 offered lots have been sold. The lots went up for sale on Aug. 31, serviced, for $11,900. The land being sold, and being considered for sale, has beeen owned by the village for 50 years. The council decided to offer the land for sale at a low price in the hope of stimulating house building in other parts of the village. Arrangement for clear- ing the road allowance was made. Ten men were found who were interested in clearing the street right- of-way in exchange for the wood. Council was told the right-of-way was going to be cleared last Saturday and Sunday. The 28 65-foot by 165-foot lots are off Highway 12 north of the Tay Township office. The municipality won't be mak- ing a large profit. The first estimate received by the council of developing each lot was $10,000. Any pro- fit will be spent on improv- ing the village water delivery system. Last week the council responded to a letter from a resident wondering why the village is going to pave this new street while another street in the village is unpaved. The buyers of the lots are paying for pav- ing of their street; that cost is included in the $11,900 purchase price, the council answered. Buyers of the 28 lots have to begin to build within 18 months. The village owns enough undeveloped surrounding land to offer 86 more lots.
