Members of Don War- rener's Martial- Arts Academy of Midland visited Toledo, Ohio on Thanksgiving weekend to compete in the annual In- tra Continental Goju Ryu Karate Tournament. Representatives from all over the U.S.A. as well as Canada took part. The Canadian representatives were from Midland, Sud- bury, Barrie, Port Credit, London and Windsor. Overall, the Canadian contingent brought home the most medals. Sensei Jerry Kasper, in - black belt competition with weapons, placed first along with a fourth in Kumite (fighting). Marlene Kasper placed Kasper first first in Women's Black Belt Kumite. In- the children's divi- sion, Jeremy Kasper finish- ed first in the Advanced Belt Kata for 10 years of age and under. David Mur- ray won third place in Ad- vanced Belt Kata in the 16 and under category. Stephen Murray won first place in under 8 Kata and Kumite. Karl Kaspar finish- ed third in both Kata and Kumite. Franziska Kasper placed fourth in Kata for eight years of age and under. This was the first com- petition for the students of the Martial Arts Academy and was considered a very successful one. Oldtimers flat The Penetang Oldtimers came up flat in the Wasaga Beach Olde Beach Boys 5th Annual Hockey Tourna- ment held at Wasaga Beach Oct, 15, 16, 17, and 18 1987. Penetang managed to score only two goals throughout the tourna- ment. Penetang was beaten 7-1 by Collingwood, 3-0 by Stayner and 7-1 by the Huronia A's.
