a a ee a eg Midland McB's surprised Barrie's Queen's Hotel 105-90 Thursday night at MSS in Sim- coe County Intermediate Men's Basketball action. Queen's, a perennial front runner, were minus two of their big men. Midland led 49-40 at the half. Midland's back board guardian, Garth Haughton, was forced to leave early in the contest due to an injury. Kevin Gray was top scorer for Midland with 25 points, Jim Faragher added 20. Other shooters in double figures were Frank God- frey (19), Todd Gray (17) and Glen Bannon (14). Bannon had a hot first half scoring five baskets and added two of three free shots. Godfrey scored 15 of his 19 points in the hec- tic second half, while Kevin Gray turned on the jets to add 17 to his eight point first half. Midway in the second half, McB's watch- Mg OO Swish!! John Faragher add- ed 16 and Jim Costello contributed 10 in the victory. Oldtimers win for fourth time The Penetanguishene Oldtimers held their fourth annual Oldtimers hockey tournament on the weekend with 14 teams in attendance. The Coldwater Creaks won the Molson Lite Division with a 3-1 victory over Gravenhurst Olde Steamers. Whitby Marigold topped the Coors Division with a 5-2 win over Wasaga Old Beach Boys. Georgian Mallers edged Bowmanville Townsport 3-2 to capture top spot in the Canadian Division, while G&W Masonry of Barrie took the honors in the Ex- port Division by a 5-2 count. The winner of the Most Sportsmanlike team Award went to Amherstburg Oldtimers, managed by former Midland Town Ad- ministrator, Al Goodchild. An unnamed team official was overheard saying, "'that's not like us"'. Midland Saints won their Friday night game with Toronto Islanders by a 3-2 count. Fred Flood opened the scoring at 6:21 from Mike Flynn before Toronto tied the score 14 seconds later. Bryan Mackell restored Midland's lead at 2:24 with help from Flynn. Bob Larmand increased Saints lead to 3-1 in the second from Earl Cousineau at 11:23. The Islanders made it close at 6:25. The Huronia A's were not very kind to former Midland resident Al Goodchild and his Amherstburg team as the A's romped to an 8-0 victory. Ross Cousineau struck for four wy Senior Boys Sacred Heart Senior Boys won the Area III Cross Country Meet earlier this month at Lit- tle Lake Park. The Sacred Heart '*B" team placed seventh overall. Midland scored two more before Bowmanville completed their scoring. The Saints notched their last marker at 1:14. Bob Monteith proved he hasn't lost his scoring touch as he adroitly tucked a pair of goals behind the Townsports goaltender. Ross Heacock and Bryan Mackell completed the Midland scoring. Huronia A's battled G&W Masonry of Bar- rie to a 3-3 draw in their second outing of the tourney. George Weatherell with help from Jim Vaillancourt fired the tieing maker at the 7:50 mark of the opening frame. Gord Paul connected less than two minutes later unassisted, before Mike Laurin lifted the A's to a 3-1 lead at 3:18. However, two second period goals by G&W tied the count. The A's next contest was against the Essex County Voyageurs Sunday afternoon for the right to go to the Export Division finals, That was not to be as Essex built up a 3-0 lead and hung on for a 3-2 victory.
