Sweeping seniors Tony Quigley keeps a watching brief on the rock while teammate, Betty Pearson, wonders what she is going to cook for dinner tonight. The exciting (?) action was Atoms lose Midland Little Lake Ser- vice Center Minor Atoms suffered an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Wasaga Beach Thursday night in Georgian Bay Minor Hockey Association action at the Wasaga Stars Arena. Wasaga put five markers on the board before Midland found their scor- ing eye with a pair near the end of the middle period. Eight of the 11 goals in the game were scored by number five. Wasaga's Bill Jennings notched five markers, while Joe Rooney recorded a hat trick for Midland. Jennings scored both goals in the first period for a 2-0 Wasaga lead and then doubled the count and his output with two more in the second period. Rooney replied with a pair at 4:03 and 2:33 before Jennings ended the period scoring 23 seconds later. Rooney tallied early in the third with what was to become Midland's last goal of the contest and his third unassisted marker. The goal pulled Midland to within three at 6-3, but a pair of goals by Wasaga's Todd Miller doused any hopes Midland had of get- ting any closer. Wasaga received eight minor penalties to only three for the Little Lake Service Center squad. Redskins win The ESPSS Senior Red- skins volleyball team finished the season with their best effort of the year. In their first match the 'Skins pushed top ranked ODCVI to the limit before losing a third game. Both squads played some of the best volleyball you could hope to see this side of Toronto. In the second match, the Redskins picked up a two game sweep over the Park Street Trojans. This was a doubly sweet victory for the 'Skins as the Trojans had stolen a victory from the local squad last week. The junior squad finish- ed its regular season on a resounding note with a clean sweep over ODCVI and Park Street. The open- ing match set the tone for the afternoon as the Red- skins dropped top ranked ODCVI 15-13 and 15-12. In their second match against Park Street the boys went into a temporary slump and lost the first game 14-16. They rebounded to take the next two matches 15-13 and 15-9. The midget squad also showed their true fighting spirit. After dropping the first game against OD by a score of 8-15, the Redskins took the next two games 16-14 and 16-14. Jonathan Ens was singled out by Coach Tony Schulze for his greatly improved spik- ing. In their final match against Park Street, the 'Skins split the first two games with identical 15-8 scores but then clobbered the Trojans 15-5 in the final. All three squads will be practicing for the Regional Finals next Tuesday at BiconPs5:S: Jazz embarassed Jory IDA Jazz were stunned 74-60 by Barrie Texaco Stars at Innisdale Tuesday night in Simcoe County Intermediate Men's Basketball League. Jazz were unable to get themselves untracked as they fell behind 39-31 at the half. A large cause of Midland's downfall was the hot shooting of Tex- aco's Paul Hopper who hooped 22 points in the first half and added 17 more in the second to ac- count for more than half of his team's points on the game. Hopper also shot seven for seven from the foul line. John Faragher led the Jazz with 24 points, while Bob Blasko added 15 in what was described as a very lacklustre perfor- mance. The next game for IDA Jazz will be in Borden at 8 p.m. Monday, November 9. They will not be making another home appearance until Thursday, November 19 when they will host Midland Mick B's at 7:30 p.m. Page 34, Wednesday, November 4, 1987 caught Wednesday afternoon at the Penetanguishene Curling Club. 1-YODA 2-GG GEORGE 7-TAY VIEW RHIA . 6-Frostitis 4-Starbuck Hanover 8-Harlan Jethro 5-Warmup 3-Newt Hanover AE1-Vera Bluegrass 4-SCARLET PARKER 7-TROTTERS PRIDE 1-WESTERN RANGER 6-Abundant 3-Battling Andy 2-Pinedale Rastus 5-Wil Lor Sara 8-Hilltop Banker AE1-T Time Nate AE2-Coat of Arms 4-MY LAD 6-SENOR DEBBIE 1-BRIDAL MUSIC 2-Cameos Skipper 8-Megans Taxi 7-Judges Decision 3-Will R Count 5-Bio Latka AE1-Tantalion Royale AE2-Venture Rip 7-SENGA RIZAL 6-SPARKY FIREFLY 1-GAELIC COMMAND 2-Nelligator 3 Senors Senorita 8-Tarripic 5-Tri Bee Di 4-Parkhill Jim = Pure --Traceway Post Time 7:30 p.m. FIRST -- Trot. purse $1,100 SECOND -- Pace, purse $1,000 THIRD -- Pace: purse $1.250 FOURTH -- Pace, purse $900 entries Wed., Nov. 4/87 AE1-Battling Pleasure G.
