Royal LePage's 24 area employees on Dec. 1 and 2 are going to leave a plastic bag on the doorknob of every household _ in Penetanguishene, Port MecNicoll and Victoria Harbour, Elmvale and Coldwater. Instructions attached to each bag will tell people they can use it to donate non-perishable food and take the food in the bag to First seminar on waste Sat. You can "fill in the gap." And you can begin this Saturday. At 10 a.m. the Civic Cen- tre on Yonge Street in Midland will fill up with everyone from politicians to captains of industry to ordinary people. All will be there to find out some new ways to cope with our massive waste problem. That's what the Georgian Shore Waste Reduction Group is planning for this Saturday as it holds its first ever waste reduction seminar. Guest speakers and videotapes will tell the story of recycling pro- grams that work - and which can save towns like Midland and Penetang millions of dollars. "Our ideas will be based on reality,' said Peter Stub- bins, one of the organizers. "It will not be totally hypothetical." Among the ideas to sur- face at the seminar will be one appealing directly to industries: "Profits From Pollution," an audio-video show on how to save money and reduce waste. It's produced by Pollution Probe. Stubbins will also draw upon his collection of waste-reduction video tapes for the seminar. There is room for about 100 people. Those who wish to go are asked to call 533-3475 or 533-3649 to confirm attendance. SQMEON} iii = Ui IT GOOLTO KNOW | * WHO KNOWS. December. Recipients can donate food to the Salva- tion Army and leave the donation at any Royal LePage office. Reinforcements called in for Christmas Cheer campaign Midland and one of the Royal LePage of- fices in Coldwater or Elmvale, or to the main of- fice in Mountainview Mall. Royal LePage manager Dave Bridgeman estimates 10,000 households will be visited. "We might need some more help." A few non-LePage people who have heard already of the idea have volunteered, he said. , December is a slower time for the year for real estate sales. And, "Bridgeman said, "The Salvation Army is a very good organization and one we wanted to give a help- ing hand to." The house to house ap- proach is "a great way to cover the whole communi- ty. We can possibly hit every house with the hope that everyone will con- tribute." Otherwise not everyone will have heard about the Christmas Cheer campaign on the radio or have read about it. "This is new for us. I hope that it works well. We want to do it again." Bridgeman's hope is that the idea will spread. Royal LePage's Whitby office did the same work last year. "Head office is very in- terested as to what the out- come is." Bridgeman would like to see Royal LePage offices across On- tario helping the Salvation Army before Christmas.
