hy No Danger Mike Keainey clears the ball from the Mid-Pen half of the field during Muskoka soccer League play Sun- day against Bracebridge. The contest was played at Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School Sa aa Horse and pony show in Elmvale The Kiwanis Club of Midland is sponsoring its second annual horse and pony shows. The dates for this year's two shows are June 26th and July 24th. Both shows will be held at the fairgrounds in Elmvale and start at 10:00 am sharp. These shows are training shows only and are not recognized shows. There are three levels of entries being Junior for ages 10 and under, Intermediate for ages 11 to 18 and Senior for anyone over 18 years old. Ten events are planned for each show including such events as Showman- ship and Turnout, Working Hunter Hack, Open Jumper, Open Command, as well as games events such as Barrels, Pole Ben- ding and Stake race. Proceeds from these horse shows will be going to assist crippled children in our area, as part of the Easter Seals program handled by the Kiwanis club of Midland. More information may be obtained by calling Mrs. Linda Atkinson at 322-3067 between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm daily. Eagles in flight In Olympia Fastball League action last week, Brooklea Eagles registered a pair of wins blanking Christian Island 4-0 Tues- day night and Dial-A- Movie 7-3 on Wednesday. Brooklea scored twice in the first frame and added a pair in the second Tues- day as John Freymouth registered the shutout. Brooklea reached losing pitcher Foxy Jamieson for seven base hits while the Island struck for six. Wednesday, the Eagles struck early by plating a pair of runs in the first in- ning and added three in the second to lead 5-0 through four. Dial-A-Movie collected two in the fifth, but Brooklea returned the favor with a pair in the bot- tom of the sixth. Earl Cousineau allowed 10 Brooklea hits in taking the loss while Larry Patenaude collected the win with a seven jitter. Track season over The high school track and field seaon is all over, but a pair of Midland Secondary School students have extended their seasons to run throughout the summer. Middle distance specialist Andrew Burgher and triple jump record set- ter, John Gibson have join- ed the South Simcoe Duf- ferin Track Club through the efforts of MSS Athletics Department Head, Larry Banks. The duo will compete in Sudbury at the Canadian Junior championships June 25-26 as well as other events during the summer. Last weekend, Burgher and Gibson competed at an All Comers Meet at York University. Burgher won his heat with a hand time of 22.7, four tenths slower than his personal best. Overall, he finished tenth in a field of 23, most of whom were older and more experienced. Gibson tied for fourth in the triple jump but distances weren't available at press time. Former Cent wins award Former Midland Stoneleigh Centennial hockey player Archie Meridis was named the Orillia Travelways Most Valuable Player for the 1987-88 season. Meridis was also the team's leading scorer with 34 goals and 42 assists in 41 games. Meridis received the two awards from _ Orillia Mayor, Ted Emond during Monday night's council meeting in Orillia. Last year was Meridis' first in the junior B ranks. Page 18, Wednesday, June 22, 1988 vgane seamen: ae Larrie = 2 8 raceway entries Wed., June 22/8 a POST TIME: 7:30 P.M. 6-Coat of Arms S.
