a eT eT Vasey Seniors are on a streak Vasey Seniors won their second Simcoe Rural Fastball League game in a row with a 5-4 win over Midland G. Wilicers Mon- day night at Herb Beauchamp _ Memorial Field. Last Thursday, Vasey toppled Hillsdale Barrie Auto Glass by a 4-3 count. Monday night, Brent Gordon cranked a one out home run in the first inn- ing to open the scoring. Vasey counted two more in the second without the benefit of a hit. Wayne King walked to open the frame, followed by Jeff Bumstead's fielder's choice erasing King at second. Sean Hook reached on an error to the third baseman and advanced on a passed ball. Ken Edgar stroked a base hit plating Bumstead while Hook scored on Gor- don's sacrifice bunt. Midland came alive in the third when Bill Parent opened with a three bagger and scored on brother Dave's double to left. Dave went to third on the left fielder's error and scored as Dave Hamelin grounded to third to trail by one. A pair of outfield errors in the fourth put two run- ners on with two out and both scored on.Bill Parent's double for a 4-3 Midland lead. Jeff Bumstead Learn to canoe In five days A practical and safety oriented canoeing program will be held at the Georgian Bay Rowing Clubhouse, on Little Lake, in Midland. The program will run from Monday, July 18 - Thurs- day, July 21, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. ending on Satur- day, July 23, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The four weeknight and Saturday classes will cover a variety of basic tandem paddling skills, a brief in- troduction to solo canoe- ing, simple canoe rescue techniques, as well as the care and safe transport of canoes. The program has been sanctioned by the Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association in cooperation with the Georgian Bay Rowing Club and the Midland Recreation Department. Learn and improve your skills and ability from a professional, certified canoe instructor, Mr. Gord Baker. Gord is registered with the Ontario Recrea- tional Canoeing Associa- tion and has his O.R.C.A. Lakewater Level III In- structor's Certificate. Upon successful completion of the program, O.R.C.A. Basic Level cards and crests will be awarded to participating individuals. There are no age restric- tions to the program, however, it is geared more toward the person with some previous canoeing experience. All _par- ticipants must supply their own canoe, paddle and Ministry of Transport ap- | proved Personal Floatation Device or _ lifejacket. Canoes may be stored at the Georgian Bay Rowing Clubhouse, for the dura- tion of the program. The registration fee is $25. for the full program. Don't delay, register now at the Midland Recreation Department. Enrolment is limited. Deadline for registration is July 14, 1988.
