The tourney was the second of six events this season. The next event will be held in Orillia August 6-7. The finals will be held September 3-5 at Wye Heritage Marina. In last weekend's event, 150 two man teams competed for cash and prizes as they earn- ed valuable points in the race to the OV Pro Bass Classic which will be also held at Wye bHeritage. Each team weighed in their six biggest bass of the day, over two days. The team with the highest total wins. First place is worth $10,000 with cash and prizes being awarded to 15th place. Some of the top professional fishermen in Canada and the United States were in atten- dance on the weekend. The well known fisherman, Henry Waschuk, ex Hamilton Tiger Cat, with his Television partner, Italo Labignan won over $1200 for the biggest catch of the day on Saturday. Midland Midland Minor Baseball hosted its Third Annual Peewee Baseball Tournament on the weekend. Markdale, Milton, Newmarket and Waterloo were the four division winners with Midland, Barrie, Wexford and Collingwood the runners-up. Milton topped Markdale 5-1 in one semi- final contest while Newmarket downed Waterloo 8-1. Newmarket had no trouble with Milton in the Championship tilt winn- ing 10-0. Newmarket went through the tourney three quarter pounds. The overall winners were Bob And Wayne Izumi with a grand total weight of 33.95 pounds. The second place team of Bob Walton and Phil Seon were well behind with 29.15 pounds, one fish under their limit. The top 40 professional Bass anglers will be competing September 3-5 for over $80,000 in cash and prizes. Hailed as the Tournament of Champions, one angler will walk away with the coveted title Canadian Champion Bass Angler and along with it, the OV Pro Bass Classic Rig which consists of a Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4x4 with new 4.3 litre engine and a fully rigged Ranger 354V/Mariner 150 Magnum II prize boat. The Classic Rig coupled with $5000 cash amounts to a first prize of $60,000. Product displays and demonstrations from leading marine and fishing manufacturers along with on the water fishing seminars will take place daily. There will be fishing and casting contests with lots of prizes to be given away. The OV Pro Bass Classic is being filmed by Barrie won the match with a narrow 3-2 margin and advanced to the consolation finals losing to Wexford 5-4. Peewee undefeated to maintain an undefeated season to date. In their first game, Newmarket blank- ed North Bay 4-0 and then edged East Toron- to 7-5. Wexford fell 5-4 allowing Newmarket free passage to the semi-finals. Milton dumped Midland 12-2) and whitewashed North Toronto 10-0. Sunday morning they edged Flesherton 11-10.
