McLean fashions a no-hitter Rob McLean was nearly perfect Thursday night as Vasey blanked Midland G. Wilicers 7-0 in Simcoe Rural Fastball League action. McLean struck out 13 while allowing only two base runners, one on a walk and the other on an error to the first baseman. Neither runner advanced to second. Vasey scored four of their runs in the first inning on six base hits and added three more With one out, Brent Gordon walked in the Vasey first and was sacrificed to second by Jim Mills. Six consecutive singles allowed the first four base runners to scamper home. Scoring for Vasey were Gordon, McLean, Bob Widdes and Keith Ball. In the fifth, Bob Widdes reached on an er- ror to the shortstop while Ball and Ron Robinson stroked singles. Blake Edwards folowed with a sacrifice fly before Jeff Bumstead checked in with a pinch hit single. A fielder's choice and a ground ball out end- ed the frame. Widdes, Ball and Robinson counted the Vasey runs. Vasey put at least two runners on in each inning except the fourth stranding nine in the McLean helped his own cause by stroking three base hits while Ball contributed a pair of hits and scored twice. The loss puts G. Wilicers on the shelf while the rest of the league prepares for the playoffs which begin next week. . ke barrie racetway entries Wed., July 27/88 FIRST -- Pace, Purse $1000 6-Kievys Skipper L.
