el aah Zone Winners Midland Novice Lacrosse Braves are the Huronia Novice Lacrosse Champions for the first time in four years. The Midland crew, coached by Brian Walser, defeated Orillia 10-1 and 9-3 for the Championship after dropping the first three games of the season to the Orillia side. The Novices next home action will be Sun- day, August 7 when they will be hosting two teams in round robin play. Soccer team loses steam by Ed Pearson The Mid-Pen Soccer Club lost their second game on the trot last Sun- day. They lost to a good team, Huntsville, who play a compact, clever game. When their game is click- ing, Mid-Pen is capable of beating any team in the league. They have won most of their games by wide margins and when they are in full fig they are a joy to behold. When they fly right they soar, when they stall they stutter. Sun- day they didn't flow, they had an off day. An element of doubt crept into their game. The tackles were not as confi- dent, shots on goal went stray and passes were not as sure. Effort was there but method was not. Hunt- sville scored four goals, Glen Duffield half of them. Surer tackling would have cleared the ball on two of the goals, Nick Bourdouris gave up a goal on a foolish penalty, the other goal was inevitable. Mid-Pen's single goal was scored by Allistair Hair on a nice centre from Les Kellerman. Too many opportunities were wasted by Mid-Pen forwards being in an off-side position. One goal was called back on this account. A better result was ex- pected. Mark Losch (Thunderfoot) was in town and in his usual spot at full back. He was a tower of strength, sure- footed as always and was one on the defence who was not in- timidated by the speedy Huntsville forwards. Dave Jupp, who has won his place on the Barrie Ci- ty team, was available for the game but is was one of the rare occasions when he did not shine. Four Mid- Pen players play regularly for Barrie City in the more elevated Newmarket and District League. The other three are Ted Chisholm, Andy Monroe and Dennis Moreau. Barrie City are having a very successful season with eleven wins, one tie and no losses. Chisholm also showed for this game but seemed to be favoring his shoulder, which he injured in a re- cent game. Monroe has been in the line for Mid- Pen once this year, Moreau several times. There are three games left in the regular season for Mid-Pen before the play-off tournaments, which are being played on the 27th and 28th of August. CKVR no stars tackle coaches Waubaushene Minor Baseball League coaches will be playing the CKVR No Stars at the Sturgeon Bay diamond on the seventh concession of Tay August 11 at 7 p.m. A hot dog barbecue will start at 6 p.m. Mike Duhig is charged with giving the play by play action for the fans in attendance.
