Brooklea holds slim lead Dial-A-Movie won its second game of the best of seven Olympia Fastball League Cham- pionship series by defeating Brooklea Eagles 7-2 last week. The series stands at three games to two in Brooklea's favor. The Eagles won the first two contests 7-0 and 6-3 before Dial-A-Movie bats woke up for a 17-6 win. Brooklea came back the following night to win 6-1 and take a 3-1 lead in the series. However, Dial-A- Movie shut down Brooklea's offence Tues- day night. Tom Powell collected a pair of runs batted in in the first inning Tuesday with a base hit that scored Bill White and Earle Cousineau before an out was made. Brooklea replied in the bottom of the frame with two of its own as Len Desjardins and Dennis Cascagnette both scored. Paul Dion reached on an error to the second baseman with one out. But that was the extent of the offensive efforts that night as Dial-A-Movie pitcher George Weatherell closed the door. Dial-A-Movie went down in order in the se- cond and third innings but broke the tie in the fourth with a three-run effort on five base hits. John Cook and Weatherell reached to start off the session. With one out, Pat Counahan, Dale Clark and Clifford all strok- ed base hits scoring Cook, Weatherell and Counahan. A pair of infield outs ended the inning. The fifth inning came and went without in- cident, but the sixth showed signs of a possi- ble eruption. With one out, Clark and Clifford reached on base hits but were left stranded on two more infield outs. Dial-A-Movie registered the last two counters in the final frame as Powell reach- ed first on a base hit but was thrown out at second on Cook's fielder's choice, Wetherell was Safe on the shortstop's error. Both run- ners scored on another miscue to the third baseman with two out. The week previous, Brooklea needed only two innings to dispose of Dial-A-Movie 6-1. Kevin Beasoleil doubled home Dennis Cascagnette and Paul Dion in the opening frame with two out. Bill White opened the bottom of the first with a three-bagger and scored on Earle Cousineau's one out sacrifice bunt. Brooklea was shut down until the sixth when players batted around, scoring four runs. Jim McDonald opened with a base hit, followed by Kevin Beausoleil's one out dou- ble. Duval has hot bat in Drywaller victory After winning the first game of the best of five Georgian Bay Women's Softball League Championship final 9-8, Penetang Gerard's Drywall travelled to Phelpston for a 24-3 vic- tory in game two. The two teams returned home last Friday winning the game 11-2 and the championship. In Phelpston, Penetang scored three times in the first, five in the second, six in the third, four in the fourth, added a single tally in the sixth after a scoreless fifth before capping off the win with five in the seventh. Phelpston tallied singletons in the second, fifth and seventh. Liz Duval had a hot bat for Penetang go- ing 6-6 at the plate including a double and a home run, scored six times and knocked in three counters. Donna Asselin engaged in George Bell-style heroics with a grand slam home run with a 2-3 night at the-plate. Heather Higgs con- tributed three hits in five trips including a tri- ple while scoring three runs and knocking in four. Penny Moreau was successful in half her six visits to the plate and scored three times... + . - Higgs pitched four innings for the win, allowing one run, three hits, walked six and struck out a pair. Mitch Lacroix finished up giving up two runs on three base hits, walk- ed two and fanned a pair. On Friday night, Phelpston kept the score to a more respectable level but still lost 11-2. Penetang scored single runs in the first and third and a pair in the second, fourth and fifth and tallied three times in thr sixth. Phelpston scored once in the second and third. Each team left seven runners on base. For Gerard's Dry Wall, Donna Asselin cranked a home run and scored three times. Liz Duval slapped a pair of doubles while Cindy King, Marg Dorion and Deanne King each had a couple of singles. Bunny White recorded a triple and a single for Phelpston, while team- mate Deb Valender crashed a round tripper. Penetang has been undefeated in regular season and the playoffs since 1984. Coach, Ernie Dubeau and his wife, Sandy have an- nounced their retirement from the team. Er- nie expressed his desire to stay on if it was possible to enter his team in the Barrie league.
