RUMOR HAS IT BETTY WANTED TO SEE PRINCESS FERGIE'S NEW CHILD, BEATRICE, SO BADLY THAT ED HAD TO SPRING FOR THE TRANS-ATLANTIC TICKETS. THEY WILL BE GONE FOR A MONTH, WITH THEIR HERALDED RETURN EXPECTED OCT. 3. SO WHILE THE PEARSONS ARE GONE, WE'LL BORROW ED'S BETWEEN THE SHEETS SLOT TO GIVE YOU SMALL TIDBITS OF INFORMATION. CONGRATS PHIL AND SUE Phil Cing-Mars, son of club members Gilles and Iris Cing-Mars, was married this summer to Sue Gignac, daughter of Remi and Ver- na Gignac. The happy couple lives in the house that Phil constructed at Coutnac Beach. WAY TO GO JULIE Julie Merkley, the youngest daughter of Larry and Annette Merkley, distinguished herself this Jackie Gyte year as a top notch athlete and student at St. Theresa's High School. Julie was St. T's top senior female athlete for 1987-88. She also won a $100 bursary as an On- tario Scholar (over 80 per cent) and the Arthur Robitaille Senior bursary as a deserving student who will be continuing her education. RUSS HOWARD TO TEACH * We all know Russ Howard as a formidable curler and golfer. Admit- tedly, he's better at throwing stones than hitting balls. That's where a contradiction lies: Russ makes his living as a golf pro. In order to set the balance of nature straight, Russ will be offer- ing private lessons this winter to all members who are interested in im- proving their game. If you're flipping your outturn, pushing your inturn, losing your balance -- whatever the problem, a quick lesson with Russ will no doubt help you. Russ's experience as a curling champion will no doubt rub off on all students. However, he is not of- fering any guarantees as to the proficiency of any pupils against, say ... Pat Ryan! Russ Howard can be contacted at 526-9874 to set up an appointment. GLENN AND JUDY TO WED The youngest sibling of Bill and Bard Howard will be married this fall. Glenn Howard and Judy Carr are to tie the knot Oct. 1. Anyone wishing to help out the happy cou- Jackie is in charge of the Penetanguishene Curling Club's finances, which have jumped dramatically in recent years. Our budget is over $100,000 and needs constant scrutinizing by Jackie and her Executive Finance Committee. Jackie is a new member to the Board of Directors, and her help in setting up the books with Manager Bill Howard, and monitoring our money dealings is appreciated. By the way, Jackie's not a bad curler, either! Ice for sale As part of the Penetanguishene Curling Club's attempt to service our many sponsors, clients and members, a new promotional pro- gram is underway. Strangely enough, we're doing it by selling ice, or at least sections of our play- ing surface. Twenty four advertising boxes are being sold to interested parties for only $50, a steal when you con- sider thousands of eyes will see these spots from October to April. So far, the reception to this marketing idea with many_ businesses and organizations in the Penetanguishene/Midland area has them jumping on the bandwagon. It's first come, first served, so anyone interested in marketing their business through our one-of- a-kind scheme, please contact David Gravelle, promotions director at 549-8125. ple by participating in Glenn's bachelor party Sept. 23, contact Russ Howard, Bill Howard, Tim Lindsay or David Gravelle. Or just show up at the Penetanguishene Curling Club at 8 p.m. Don't worry -- we haven't let the cat out of the bag about the stag party. Glenn knows! Geez, he even had to ask for the time off work to go to his own party. | hope he invited his boss!
