Emery Molson's breweries sup- plied the winners and runners-up in each divi- sion with medallions. Hillerich and Bradsby sup- plied a Louisville Slugger hockey stick for the game winning goal scorer in each division final. Ren- frew Tape donated a box of tape for the team that of- fered the most toward the success of the tourney. Tournament organizers thanked CKMP radio 1230 for reporting the results throughout the weekend. Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations At a press conference last Wednesday in the Penetanguishene Arena, Vince Moreau announced that the Sports Hall of Fame is accepting public nominations. Moreau is the chairper- son of a six-man committee that oversees hall inductions. The other members are Paul Devillers, Jerry Mur- phy, Ken Tannahill, Ron Marchildon and Michael Dubeau. The Hall of Fame came to life last August after committee meetings which began in the summer of 1986. The first inductees numbered 13, including players, coaches and builders in hockey, track and field and baseball. The criteria for con- sideration are that the per- son must have been a resi- dent of Penetanguishene or surrounding townships and must have been involv- ed in local, provincial, na- tional or international sports. The individual must be retired for five years. Race horses may be con- sidered for entry as well as teams and individuals. Certain criteria may be waived or altered under some circumstances. For example, three or four years down the road Brian Orser could be considered even if he is still skating -- because he was a world Mick B' champion as an amateur. Russ Howard and his foursome also can be con- sidered in a few years even though none lives in Penetang. However, their home _ rink is_ the Penetanguishene Curling Club. Ss drop their opener Midland Mick B's started .off the 1988-89 Simcoe Gounty Intermediate Men's Basketball League season on the wrong foot by losing to Barrie Queen's Hotel 85-70. After being totally outgunned in the first half 46-30, Midland rebounded for a 40-39 second half in its favor. Midland played a safe game with no player receiving more than two fouls. - Barrie, on the other hand, had one player with four fouls and two others with three for a total of 15 fouls in the contest, 10 of them in the second half. Midland was caught with e Streamers eh e Cut outs e Invitations e Napkins e Decorations e Balloons 18 Cundles E. 721-1748 Barrie, Ont. three fouls in the first half and seven in the second. John Faragher paced the Midland attack with 13 points while Jim Costello netted an even dozen. Jeff Atwood and Bob Blasko hooped 10 apiece. Midland received points from nine different players while all six of Barrie's players hit double figures. Midland was only 5-13 at the foul line while Barrie struck three for six. According to Moreau, there must be a definitive connection with Penetang. The cutoff for nomina- tions from the public will be May 31, 1989. Nomina- tions should be addressed to Ron Marchildon and delivered or mailed to the Penetanguishene municipal office. The nomination should also contain the nominee's name, sport and some in- formation on athletic achievements. The committee is hoping at least two people to be in- ducted into the hall. A ban- quet will be planned for late August to honor them.
