Oldtimers tourney The Midland Saints won the "'B" divison of the Penetang Oldtimers tournament on the weekend. The Saints blanked the Aurora Old Sweats 2-0 in their final contest to cop the honors. The Ajax Old Boys won the "'A"' Divi- sion with a 5-2 win over Midland's Huronia A's. In the above photo, Bill Jones (mumber 17) of the Saints is on one knee as the A's goaltender fishes for the puck. The A's won this contest 4-3. Clerk and Returning Officer Mick B's even the score Midland Mick B's even- ed their season record at 1-1 with an 87-64 win over Orillia Royal LePage in Simcoe County In- termediate Men's Basket- ball League play last Monday. After finishing the first half tied at 36-36, Midland found its shooting eye and clicked for a 51 point half while limiting their op- ponents to a mere 28 points. Midland was led by the 15 point second half per- formance of Bob Blasko who finished the game with 20 points. Jeff Atwood registered 14, while Frank Godfrey added 12. Dennis Hern, Dave Mink and John Faragher contributed 10 each as Mick B's ended the game with no less than six of their 10 players in dou- ble figures. MSS senior boys win big The Midland Secondary School senior boys volleyball team won the Barrie Central Invitational Tournament Oct. 15. In pool play, MSS lost to Aurora, split with Barrie Central and defeated Huron Heights. Reaching the semi-finals, MSS was matched with the pre-tourney favorites, a strong AAA school from Georgetown. Losing the first game 12-15, MSS scrambled back to win two in a row led by the strong defence and consistent hitting of Bill Meridis. Power hitter John Gibson could not be stop- ped while Craig Pattenden and Gary McPhee blocked effectively at important points late in the match. Midland defeated Barrie North in the final to bring home the gold.
