Charged on Oct. 18 with unlawfully selling and transporting splake were Tim Monague, 31, of Chris- tian Island, and Ray Parkes, 28, of Tiny Township. About half of the 260 to 270 charges against the two men had been process- ed by Monday. The men are charged with breaking Ontario fishery regulations under the Canada Fisheries Act, and provi- sions of the Game and Fish Act. Eight of the 15 commer- cial fishing licences held by residents of Christian Island are being investigated. The splake season ended on Sept. 30. This is the spawning season. Splake, a cross of the speckled trout and lake trout, was put in- to Georgian Bay around 1973. Fines promised People who dump their garbage in Midland wil be charged if caught, the town's bylaw officer says. A maximum fine upon conviction of $2,000 is possible. Robert Marchand reported episodes of five bags of garbage left dumped and broken open around a downtown dumpster, two mattresses abandoned in a downtown alley, and a worthless couch left at the Salvation Army.
