New season for band The Chaverim Chris- tian rock band held its first concert of the season at the Vasey United Church Sunday morning. It's the band's fourth season under the guidance of Cathy and Rick Brown. "Some kids wanted to start a band, so we started off doing folk music and ended up doing this," Rick explained the band's origin. The group started with eight or nine and now have up to 17. To choose selections, the Browns purchase tapes of Christian con- temporary music and res- pond to what they hear. "This is garbage; this is good. This is too easy; this is too hard. The kids will like this; the kids will hate this." Then with the help of musical advisor Don Gor- don, they do_ the arrangements. Rick Brown said the group goes where it is in- vited andhave performed at churches in Midland, Victoria Harbour, Waubaushene, Elmvale, Stayner and also at Midland Secondary School. NYAT!
