I feel compelled to res- pond to a headline of the Nov. 16 edition of The Midland Times, to quote: Decisions scrutinized Dear Editor: On Nov. 9 (page 1) your newspaper carried a story detailing how a company owned by Reeve Robert Moreau of Victoria Harbour came to own several lots in the Bay Street subdivision -- land that was previously owned by the village. We would like to com- mend you on an article that displayed a good ex- ample of investigative reporting. We would en- courage you to continue presenting facts such as this to the public. It has certainly raised some questions in our minds which warrant answers. - In the newspaper arti- cle, Reeve Moreau seem- ed upset that his business dealings should be made public. It should be clear to anyone in public office that any decision of coun- cil is open to public scrutiny. An extension of this logic says that where private business dealings of members of council can be affected by deci- sions of council, they also are subject to the same scrutiny. Your paper is surely aware that Mayor Al Roach has not enjoyed good health during the last few years. In fact, as recently as your Nov. 9, 1988 edition of the Midland Times, a caption appeared on the front page, outlined in black, reporting that the mayor had been admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia. I found, as I am sure many other readers found, that the three- word headline of your Where Christmas shopping is a pleasure...
