_Opinion Thanks for all the assistance Dear Editor: ' | want to thank both Leger Robitaille and John Gignac for all their assistance and perseverance over the last number of years. I also want to thank Frances St. Amant for her help. Our water pressure for the last nine years has not been up to standard. It is thanks to the above three people that something has been done about it. Thanks for the support Dear Editor: All Saints A.C.U. wish to thank all those, . who supported their bazaar. Winners of the draws were: Vivian Grenier, Perkinsfield, hand-made rug; Dorinne Dupuis, Penetang, hamper of groceries; Rosemary Tannahill, Penetang, $25. All Saints ACU Penetang Schools receive thanks Dear Editor: St. Ann's Catholic Women's League would like to thank the three Penetang schools that participated in the U.N.I.C.E.F. project, netting $691.48. Thank you kids. Catholic Women's League There was a little stone in the line bet- ween the main and our house. Before the stone was taken out, we were getting three gallons a minute. This test was taken by the town on Tues- day Nov. 29. After taking out the stone, the water pressure doubled to between six and seven gallons per minute. We thank you three very much for more water. Yours truly, Don Roszmann A NY [= ANN WY AN ANY IN 'Tony, Gary, how's the party?' : Soe Along with hundreds of thousands of other people, I took my life in my hands and went Christmas shopping on Saturday. Worse, I did it in downtown Toronto since I was there anyway to watch the Detroit Red Wings destroy the Maple Leafs later that night. Actually, one plus that I got out of that night was scalping an extra ticket I had for twice its original value. Unlike the other merchants on Yonge Street, the scalpers weren't looking for pur- chasers a few hours before the game. Cries of 'Anybody got any tickets? Whose selling? Whose selling? You gotta pair?" were heard ringing out at everybody coming out of the subway. Even people unlucky enough to be stroll- ing by were assailed by these en- trepreneurs, eager for some bargains. In case you didn't know, the scalpers buy extra tickets off people at a low price and in turn sell them to others, often at a 100 per cent mark up or more, depending on how good the seats are. The Red Wings are quite a rival among Leaf fans, so the profits were quite good; an average of $25-$40 for grey seats, which are in the rafters, that normally sell for $11. I sold my ticket to an eager looking gentleman who was smoking an enormous cigar and had at least two diamond rings on each of his fingers. He pulled out a wad of 20s and peeled a couple from it, nodding happily as he glanced around, still looking for more business. Diamond rings and enough pocket money to choke Geraldo Rivera; I guess business is good. Almost as good as the shop owners were doing further down the street. Unlike the scalpers, these people were looking to sell, and they certainly didn't have to haggle about prices. The customers were squashed onto escalators, jostled in lineups, had their feet stepped on and were only too happy to lay out their cash when they found the right -- Penetanguishene Citizen General Manager: Judy French Managing Editor: Tim Kraan Asst. Which is how most shoppers were acting -- like they were in a race with somebody they just knew was looking for the same item (it also being the last one available). I'll draw another parallel to the hockey game here: elbowing, interference, tripp- ing, spearing, and yes, even small skir- mishes broke out here and there. The penalty? Even after finding what you're looking for, having to stand in a seemingly endless lineup right in front of a pair of screaming two year olds. If you think Christmas is all comfort and joy, you must have bought your gifts dur- ing the summer. The Penetanguishene Citizen welcomes letters to the editor.
