Tay changes assessment methodology by Barb Skelton Staff Writer All ratepayers in Tay may be getting new assessment notices in 1989. New market value pro- perty assessments have been prepared by Ron Moore, assessment com- missioner, and Roger Husband, . valuation manager for Simcoe County. They explained the system to council's December meeting: Tay properties are now assessed on 1975 values. The current appraisals will bring them forward to 1984. Under market value assessment, properties are divided into classes, for instance, residential, commercial and. farms. The tax burden of the class remains the same under the new assess- ment. It's the portion an individual property pays in relation to other pro- perties in the class that could change. The properties are valued according to the price similar properties have fetched on the open market. Recently, waterfront properties have been go- ing up in value relative to inland properties. This likely will be reflected more in a future reassessment. , In January, the assessors want to present an impact study to coun- cil. Council would havea _ month to review the study. If they accept the new assessments, notices will be sent in February show- ing the new assessed value. Within the following month, the assessors will hold open house three times, once on a Satur- day, where they can answer questions about individual assessments. People can phone the assessment office as well. Leitz is giving» Christmas cash Dr. Joerg Wullschleger presented Huronia District Hospital with a $30,000 cheque yesterday.
