After one schedule of seasoning | have noticed that our new curlers have greatly improved. This must be due to the extended curling clinics held during the Christmas holidays and on Sundays. | also think the fun and com- petitiveness of the Friday Night Mixed League comes from the wat- chful eye of Rita Sharpen in draw- ing up the schedule. And, as it happens more often than not, the person who does the schedule is the one who usually drops out when the numbers don't jive. Rita has decided to sit it out this schedule. The second schedule was revis- ed as a few people dropped out at the last minute, for a variety of reasons. New schedules can be picked up in the lounge. And, | ask anyone who can't curl in the third schedule to please let Rita or myself know as soon as possible. This saves hours of work and frustration on the drawmaster's part. Thank you for a job well done, Rita!! BEAVER LUMBER Speaking of building the Friday Night League ...-1 would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsor of the second schedule. PENETANG BEAVER LUMBER has probably built more houses in town than we have curling teams. LeCaron schoolboys | Thanks for your generous support. PETE'S PREDICTIONS . This is the part where | am going to predict the winners of the se- cond schedule after only two weeks of curling. | hope | don't bring bad luck to any team ... that is unless they're curling me! The team that will end up in first place will be DAVE YEOMAN'S, who along with wife Audrey, and front end Owen Harries and Ann Bloomberg, form a solid, well- balanced, fun rink. Second place will go to the veteran mixed curling team of AL and SUE McCLINTON, who along with newcomers Greg Rice and Donna Tomlinson, are good enough to win, but will find the competition just too tough to over- take first place. Third place will be close, but LARRY BUCKLEY who can make all the tough shots when called upon, will come third. It's unfor- tunate for Chris and Lorna Wright that Larry and Kim won the first schedule... because | don't think Larry will be able to perform under pressure a second time around, to duplicate a championship. | guess he and the others will just have to prove me wrong! Read the next issue of the Penetanguishene Curling Club News to see if my predictions for 1989 have come true! Until then ... let's have fun! illite Page P14, Wednesday, January 18, 1989 Skip Marc Price representing Ecole Secondaire LeCaron delivers a stone during Gore Mutual School Boy action at the Midland Curling Club January 5-6. Waiting to sweep Marc's rock are David Laverdiere and Shawn Desroches. Alfredo Graziani was holding the broom. The LeCaron rink won two and lost two and were eliminated from school boy action by Parry Sound's Darcy Weeks. Of note, the Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secon- dary School team of Jody Robillard, Phillip David, Spencer Beau- doin and Jay Berriault won their first game in the schoolboy bonspiel, but were knocked out two straight after that.
