Charlebois Kings 14-0 Friday night in Georgian Bay Junior C hockey. No Less than 14 Cents figured in the scoring. Chris Murdock seemed to lock up the contest for the Free Press with a goal at the 51 second mark but Stephen Myers struck with only one second on the clock to salvage a 3-3 tie. Ryan Cameron and Brian Robitaille net- ted the other Free Press tallies while Chris Cooper and Jay Dorion answered for LePage. Bike Shop defeated Bourgeois Motors 3-1 with Jonathan Levechia, Chad Grubb and Jeff Latour sharing the honors for Bike Shop. Shawn' Pattison replied for Bourgeois. In South Simcoe action, Penetang No. 1 blanked Wye Heritage 6-0 in bantam play with Chris Segalin recording the shutout. Steve Robillard (2), Sean Maynor, Tim Cor- beau, Jason Dorion and Trevor St. Amant took care of the scoring. Smith's Mobile proved ungracious hosts to Elmvale with a 5-0 whitewash. Angela Rumney earned the shutout with Martin Kraftscik and Spencer Levesque each scor- ing twice. Jason Levesque scored a single. Tom Leclair scored twice as Midland No. 2 bested Thornton 4-1 in peewee ac- tion. Shawn Asselin and Stephen Stoneman each notched one. Howard tunes in for week in Trenton by Ed Pearson Special Report Russ Howard and his rink prepared for this week's Labatt's Tankard by scooping up $5,000 in the Port Elgin Cash Bonspiel last weekend. RES. ait Early in the 'spiel, the foursome was defeated by Paul Savage, relegating them to the 'B" side. As fate would have it, the two rinks met again, but this time it was Howard's turn as Savage was beaten 9-1. The teams shook hands mid- way in the match. The Ed Werenich entry was knocked out early. Werenich may not be up to par due to a car accident he was involved in after Christmas. He suf- fered bruised ribs and a sore wrist. At the Port Elgin 'spiel, the man with the hot hand was Owen Sound's Al Hutchin- son, who breezed through to the final undefeated. In the final, Hutchinson and Howard arrived at the sixth end tied. That was the pivotal end as Howard stole four and cruised to a 9-6 win and the $5,000 first prize. WA BE 4 oa S RSRENDP BEES Marauders tops in 2 weekend tournaments Midland Secondary School senior Marauders won a pair of basketball tour- naments the past two weekends. On Jan. 28, MSS won the Gravenhurst High School senior boys basketball tourna- ment by sweeping three games. This past weekend, the Marauders captured the 17th annual Penetang Secondary School tournament. In its first outing in Gravenhurst, MSS stopped Aurora 58-41 and led 29-21 at the half. Steve Kirdeikis scored 11 points with Chuck Lehr adding 10. Mike Dobson hooped 15 points as MSS slipped past a scrappy Sutton contingent 45-39. Scott Bales scored 12 points while Kirdeikis added 11. In the championship tilt, the Marauders defeated Bayview 41-34. Kirdeikis was top scorer with a 16 aided by Dobson's 11. At Penetang on Saturday, The Marauders dropped CFB Borden 56-37 with Bales leading the way with 17 points. Shane Devlin hooped 12 for Borden. Midland led 30-19 at the half. In its second contest, MSS disposed of Aurora 68-44. Midland led 42-20 at the half. Dobson netted 15 of his 19 points in the first half. Bales scored 10 in the game, all in the first half.
