Was $15,567. vow 13,890090 Midland Recreation Fiddle way into summer The third annual Huronia Open Fiddle and Step Dance Contest is slated June 16 - 17. The popular event will be held at Centennial Arena and will feature fiddlers and step dancers from across the province in six categories of com- petition in both fiddling and step dancing. KKK Several busloads of Midlanders will travel to Canandaigua July 7 - 9 for the second annual Inter- national Friendship Games. At least eight sports will be a part of this event. KKK Registrations for Midland's spring and summer sports activities are coming up in early April. Soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and tennis will hold registrations April 3 and April 6 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and on April 8 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.at the Midland Civic Center. KKK The Recreation Depart- ment is involved in plan- ning a number of special events along with regular summer programs. The annual Participaction 'Challenge starts things May 31 when Midland challenges Canandaigua, N.Y. The aim of the day is to see which communi- ty is more physically fit. Each member of the com- munity is asked to per- form 15 minutes of physical activity on that day and register with the Recreation Office. Soccer camps will again return to Midland this summer with some new developments. A special half day pro- gram will be available for five and six year olds dur- ing the weeks of July 3 - 7 and July 10 - 14. The camp for 7,9 year olds will take place July 3 - 7 while July 10 - 14 is set aside for 10 - 13 year olds. Two sessions are planned for the annual tennis camp July 3 - 6. Youth can register for the morning sessions while adults can participate in the evening program. The Playschool and Playground summer children's programs begin July 3 and continue to August 25. The pro- grams are for children 5 - 12 and registration is open for any number of weeks. For information on these programs, contact the Recreation Office at Tykes The 10th annual Midland Minor Hockey House League tournament began Monday at Centen- nial Arena with lots of action in the tyke division. Petras win senior '"'D"' title The How Construction Petras won the North Eastern Ontario Women's Hockey Association Senior "D" championship by virtue of a 2 - 1 victory over Gravenhurst Thursday night. After winning 12 - 3 last Sunday over the Gravenhurst Ault's Angels, Penetang struggl- ed for the win. The championship is the third in the past four years for the Petras. They now advance to the Pro- vincial championship tournament in Mississauga April 15 - 16. Karen Graham gave the Petras a 1 - 0 lead at the midway point of the opening frame on a pass from Jennifer Legault. Gravenhurst struck with the equalizer only to have Georgina Gage fire 'he game winner with less than four minutes re- maining in the middle session. The teams skated through a scoreless third period. Petras pieces: All players in the Penetang Midland Ladies Hockey League are reminded the general meeting will be held March 19, 2 p.m. at the Penetang Arena. It's the time to discuss com- ideas and opinions. The banquet will be held April 1 at the Georgian Bay Hunters and Anglers on Ogden's Beach Road; cocktails at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30.
