Soccer begins soon by Allison Dorion Special Report _Huronia It's time for soccer registration at the Midland Civic Center for children from 5 to 12 years old. April 3, 5 and 8 are the days for the youngsters to sign up. The cost is $15 and any family with more than four children need only pay $45. Carol Coutts and Judy Thomas have _ been organizers of the soccer league since it formed five years ago. Last year 150 children registered. Coutts says if there is enough interest they will form a 13-15 age division: this season. On April 24 and 25, two skill nights will be held at Midland Secondary School. Regular competi- tion begins May 2 and lasts until the end of June. They will continue to utilize both of the MSS fields. The smaller children in the 5-6 age group are coached by parents and they play mini-soccer (seven players a side). The favorite part for the children is getting oranges after the game, according to Coutts. She says they could distribute oranges during half-time, but the players love them so much they would pro- bably lose their concen- tration for the second half. For further information on Midland Minor Soc- ' cer, contact Coutts, Thomas or the Midland Recreation Department at 526-4770.
