W. SCOTT. Town Council. Towns Councin. --An adjourned meet- ing of the Town Council was held Monday evening, 18th inst. Present, Mayor Scott in the chair, Reeve Hack- ing, Deputy-Reeve Heppler, and Councillors R. Wood, J. H. Gunther, J, A. Tremain, J. C. Hay, R. K. Hall, A. Robertson, D. D. Campbell, W. Pelton, T. E. Hay and A. Foerch. A communication was read from the Listowel Horticultural Society asking for agrant of $50--laid over. An opinion was read from Messrs. Darling & Blewettto the effect that the part of the building the Post office was exempt from taxation. Mr. W. E. Binuing applied for position of superintendent of granolithic side-walks and bridge to be builtin town. Tend- ers were read for building granolithic walk as follows: From R. T. Kemp at 13c. per square foot; from Guelph Pavement Co., at 12c. per square foot ; from the Ingersoll Sylica Barytic Stone Co., at 12c. per foot. Tenders were read for building a bridge on Davidson street, from Wm. Helmka, with rock elm covering, $225, cedar covering $240; Jas. Hanna, rock elm, $244, cedar $252; from John Scott, Lebanon, $279. Ac- connts were read as follows : L. Bolton, copying 1895 roll, $10;S. M. Smith, telegraphing $1 ; W. E. Binning, acting as clerk pro tem for two months, $10 ; do. for plans and specifications for bridge $6--referred to proper Com- mittees. The chairman of Finance read his report dealing with balance of taxes on roll for 1895. Committee al- so recommended payment of accounts of J. W. Scott, expenses resale of debentures, $4; Hay & Coghill, post- age, ete. re debentures, $3.27; C. Tabberner, auditing accounts, $12, do. anditing collector's roll, $5 ; L. Bulton, do. do. $17. Committee also recom- mended that Collector be paid when roll was taken over, also that account of H. Goddard be paid by council and deducted from assessor's salary.. On motion the report was adopted and al- terations were ordered tobe made in roll as directed. Moved by J. Ac Hacking, seconded by W. Pelton, that ocoupieu by all taxes unpaid be returned agains; the roll--Carried. Moved by J. A. Hacking, seconded by J. C. Hay, that the first meeting of the Court of Re- vision be held on June 4th at 7.380 p. m, in town hall--Carried. The chair- man of Board of Works reported that he had:plans for bridge on Davidson street, also tendersas read. Moved by J. A. Hacking, seconded hy A. Foerch, that the tender of Wm. Helmka for a bridge as per plan be accepted, the covering to be rock elm --Oarried. Accounts of T. Rothwell, 60c., over paidon taxes ; 8. M. Smith, telegraphing, $1 ; C, A. Lee, refund of taxes wrongly assessed, $10, were orderedto be paid.
