~ any eulogy at this time. June 19 LISTOWEL ST& Mr. MacLaren at Milverton. GRAND CONSERVATIVE RALLY---MR. GRIEVE REPRESENTED BY A BEVY OF OB- STRUCTIONISTS. There assembled on Saturday night | C in Grosch's hall, Milverton, a large, enthusiastic and representative gather- ing of farmers and Gee to listen to the speeches of Alex. F. MacLaren, the winning candidate in 'North Perth, and H. B. Morphy, barrister, of Listo- wel. The name of both er either of these gentlemen is sufficient to provoke a round of applanse in Milverton, so decidedly popular are they in this sec- tion George Langford ocenpied the chair, and in the course of the evening ex- pressed himself as entirely satisfied with Mr. MacLaren's stand oh the Man- itola school question and the fiscal pol- icy of the Government. The chairman said that Mr. MacLaren would be elect- ed on June 23rd by an overwhelming majority, and he was proud to say he would go to parliament to nourish the N. P., which had _ so much for the ia 36 of Can - Hamilton open the meeting "hy n oe pithy speech, which met with hearty applause. Mr. MacLaren himself was the next speaker and was awarded a hearty re- ception by his numerous admirers. He set at rest the minds of the people by his straightforward, outspoken position on the Manitoba school question. said he was not in favor of separate schovls and believed the Manitoba Government was the proper party to settle the school difficulty. He said he would vote against any government in their effort to coerce Manitoba. He appealed to the farmers, and not in vain, to support his candidature as a repre- septutive iv the House of the dairy in- - dustry, so important a factor to the agricultur ist in the accumulation of weulth. Mr. MacLaren resuming his seat was cheered to the echo. The lust speaker, Mr. Morphy, of Listowel, is too well known to require He spoke for an hour and ten minutes on the fiscal policy of the Government, which was the nblest exposition of the benetit of the National Policy that was ever de- livered in Milverton. Mr. Morphy has the ability and knack of presenting his arguments in such a clear, terse way that they carry conviction to the audi- ence. His able effort was repeatedly punctured by hearty applause. 'The Liberal candidate was represett- ed by Messrs. Hofferd and Weir, the former a local Liberal light (?) the latter one of Her Majesty's Justizes of the Pence (2) forsooth. Their opposi- tion consisted in repeated interruptions of the spenkers, particularly Mr. Morphy, whose scathing retorts would have made men of ordinary intelligence feel insigniticant. It would appear nature was very unkind to this con- ceited combination, for they do not seem to realize the disgrace they heap- ed upon the Liberal party and the in- jury they did Mr. Grieve. Be it said to the credit of the Liberals, that not one of them was either a party to or an approver of the unseemly condact, but were on the contrary a unit in con- demning the actions of the two nonen- tities The Conservative party are now thor- oughly aroused as they were never he- fore. Saturday night' 8 meeting has cleared the air and they are going in with a will to redeem the riding on the 23rd inst. After that date the address ofthe member for North Perth will be A.
