McKay, Atwood, Ontario. - e Killed In A Fist Fight At Stratford. Stratford, June 15.--Henry Lockey is in jail here, charged with murder, as the result of an altercation last Saturday night with Noah Gill, it seems, had been drinking more or less on Saturday, and bad a quarrel at one of the city hotels, and were turned out. They, however, decided to settle the quarrel in true Englis' style by fighting it out with their fists, "for points," as is alleged by Lockey, the winner of most points to buy the beer. A man named Chap- man, who had just returned from the London camp, was selected by Hill as his second, while Frank Morris did alike duty for Lockey. They first determined to fight the matter outon the hay market, but as this was too public a place, the rear of the skating rink was decided on. Repair- ing there and divesting themselves of their superfluous clothing and shak- ing hands, the contest_commenced. ®/ Hill, the taller man, getting in a blow on Lockey's chest. The latter re- taliated with a blow with the left hand on Hill's right jaw, breaking the latter's neck. This is what is cur- rently reported. There was. but one nearby witness, a lad of eleyen years, tnamed Hatch, except, of 'course, the seconds. Lockey claims that Hill stumbled and fell, and that the blow, he received was but trifling. A prominent medical man, whom your correspondent saw, says that while this is improbable, and hardly possible, it might be the cause of death. The fighting took place about 8 p.m. and in a short time Lockey and his second, Morris, were arrested. Dr. Devlin, Coroner, was soon on the scene of the tragedy, as was also Dr. Rankin. Hill was found to be dead, and death was determined to have been almost instantaneous, the neck being broken.--Globe. Henfryn.
