KEY SIO SUBSCRIPTION RATE $1.00 A YEAR Stratford, October 26, 1923 The Relatedness of Things in Nature Everything in nature is a unit. No one has studied or even re- fected on nature that is not made aware of this fact, and every ex- perience has an undivided relation- ship to life. Nothing can be added in the form.of attachment. All that is in this realm has inherent completeness. Nor will anything in tlature admit of attachment be- cause nature operates by processes from within ; not by the addition sf external parts Dr. Bland, in his sermon Sunday, n 1 h } His thougnt. poet it tael lt «+: st) My beautifully illustrates t H He fe aA bs OP +1, rn eae e-said : ihat the - oidest tree hala ee Oe lato' th a ' ar? neicd withilt oS life the fhrstvear's ae. | ee } \ ] growth, and that the newest thought Was only a combination of past - , ts ) } i) Dbiand has a tratsparent Ama $144, wdcy +1 : ili: a iarihed vision that 1s "Mons were most lustructive, and this preacher im- pressed those who heard him of t] beuefit of years, and their ripening effect rather than their estructiveness, His gospel of Freedom, Con- guest and Change in the Christian- ity for to-day has a newness that will make its acceptance popular. The program he outlined would certainly not be called restrictive or obstructive to anyone who wanted to accept the Christian faith. In fact, he warned his hearers against dogmatism. Begin to Study Now Maybe there are no words that are better deserving of being em- blazoned on the scroll of the soul than the words, "'Tis the mind that makes the body rich."' Many a one to-day is busy mak- ing money who is letting his mind Tun to weeds, and one day may awaken to the fact that a kingdom has been established outside but not inside. You intend to start and read and study when your pile is made, but then it fay be too late. The mind that is not culti- vated is left unused and cannot contain the things that make old | age anything but miserable. In our mind is a lady who has had trouble come to her home, and who is still carrying more than her shate of life's vicissitudes, and no one can help but wonder how she has borne them, but this woman has cultivated her mind, and instead of | spending her time nursing them, has a passion for study. She reads | man | were visible. | It's walls stand stark and bare Eeood books, and thus assinulates | their contents.- She is interested in the things that make life rich and worth while, but a taste for these things can seldom be de- veloped if left off until a more con- venient season. You must begin now, and even now it may need effort, but it's surprising how quickly this thirst for knowledge is acquired. The making of the mind will make the years constructive and more happily lived. rich Life's Real Values in the Human Soul. When the world begins to count | value not by the thing it sees and handles, and count time not by the dial on a clock, not in years but in deeds, then will we see the dawn of a new civilization. The greatest that ever walked the earth had no bank account or assets that Not even a place to lay His head, and if we count time by years His life was short; but would you say He was poor, or that His life was short, or even think | it. If He did anything he showed that life's real values were in the hunian soul. "Not ta vaults--not in goods--nor in- things you can see and handle, but the kingdoms of earth and Heaven were within. The Old Woollen Mill The looms ate gone; the busy workers fled : a ruined mass. hum of commerce that was there is dead : Its life is but an echo as we pass. Th e A prey to flames; a mark of cruel Fate, It stands to-day a ruined heap of stone. | Though labor's hum is heard awhile of late "Tis but spasmodic and will soon be gone. Its chimney, still erect, points to the sky Devoid of smoke, the sign of life and speed, As if to mock the worker passing by-< _ A prey to circumstance and hoary greed. | The twitt'ring birds that nest there in the Spring ; The summer rains that unrelenting fall Are but the outcome of atiother thing | That casts its gloomy shadow over all. -- JOHN ROWLAND Madge's Meat Pies 10¢, 3 for 25c Fresh Appetizing Palatable Ontario St., near Court House | ANCRUM BRAE - PRIVATE HOSPITAL Stratford, Ont.
