A preacher who gave everything new would be like taking his people up in an aeroplane and dropping them down in the wildernéss; you can't make a gospel out of all that is new. The old cannot be disposed with. Nevertheless, the new is necessary for the present day Christianity. The preacher should say something that would make his people sit up and say, "I have not heard that before." This spirit shows an intellectual timidity which can- not much longer recommend itself, | and to-day people are looking, and if you are not, don't dogmatize. | The spirit of Intolerance is born /not of confidence, but of fear. There is no comfort in a faith that makes you afraid to investigate. The truth will always stand in- vestigating. The real essential is the heart warming up to Jesus.
