In 1922 the mill rate in Kitchen- er for secondary education was on- ly 1.69. In 1923 when the new school was built it went up to 2.75 mills, and for this year when in full operation the mill rate took another jump to 3.1897. This shows that the rate nearly doubled and in spite of the fact that the assessment was over a million and a half more than in 1922, and in spite of the fact that the town of Waterloo helps to finance this institution. The assess- ment of Kitchener alone is $20,- 234,000 or nearly $7,000,000 more than-Stratford's assessment. In St. Catherines the Collegiate rate for 1921 was 1.8 mills. In 1922 when their new school was_heing built it was 3.7 mills and in 1923 it went up to 5.2 mills or nearly three times that of what it was be- fore they had the new school. The assessment here is over $7,000,000 more than that of Stratford. How does the tax payer here relish the thought of having the rate materi- ally increased by the erection and maintainance of a vocational school costing $250,000, especially when our Collegiate rate already is four mills. TAXPAYER. Visitor From British Columbia, Geo. T. Moyer, formerly a G. T. R. operator here and now of British Columbia, is in the city for a few days renewing acquaintances. Mr. Moyer is with the C.P.R. Hesays when he went West 27 years ago, the C.N_R. was little known, but within the last decade has built her lines through that country. Within 15 years the C. N. R. has extended West from Winnipeg to Vancouver. George looks well, and 27 years have not made the furrows in his brow much deeper. Wm. Nowick, Nile street, is back on his job again after having been laid up for several weeks. Mr. Nowick is one of the Cae te 8 stalwart section men.
