Fisher, Jr.) A snow man stood as snow men should The wintry winds defying, His Features in a frozen grin ~ His frame of mind implying. What cared he if his joints were stiff, He had no cause to bend 'em, "And should his soles, develop hojes Jack Frost was there to mend 'em. But one fine day there came that. way A maiden most begufling, 'Whose eyes were bright as stars at night, Whose lips were ever smiling. Not over tall nor yet too smail, _ A most bewitching charmer, And since this dame should have a name We'll call her '"Fair-and-Warmer." Now men of snow, at ten below, Are hard as bricks and mortar: But when ghe winked, our snow man blinked _ And seemed to weaken, sorter. And when the miss bestowed a kiss The boy waxed soft as butter: His icy heart just fell apart -- And trickled down toe gutter. *Twas then too late to extricate . Himself, from out the muddle, And goon upon the soggy lawn He lay a helpless puddle. The moral oi the tale above fs this--when beauties bid you, If you'd enjoy long life, old boy, Keep cool, don't let 'em kid you. ; That's different--Miss Prude: "TI overheard Freddie tell you I danced : like a zephyr." Miss Quick: Ye gods and little fighes,.he didn't say zephyr he said "heifer." "HERE AND THERE By¢Doc." He who laughs last is usually the dumbest. It's a wise cork that knows its own "pop," She said she had often wondered where they got corned beef from, but now she knew since she had seen a calf in the field licking at a lump of rock salt, A plumber had become_exasperated with his new mate and told him he needed a course in memory training. "And why so?" asked the mate. "Well, Blimey," said* the plumber, "Blowed if you 'aint°gone and forgot ' ase to forget them tools again. - Mary had a little lamb, She showed it on Fair Day: But now she has two little calves Which she shows every day. They tell us that the reason Ananias was so severely punished was because they were not so used to lying in those days. ~The movement started to bar hip- flaskers from dances and social evy- ents, is a very. commendable one, and should be supported by every self- respecting person. There are alto- gether too many, especially young fellows, who imagine they cannot have a good time without.a crock, A serious mistake which they--will real- ize some day. What a career has been the experi- ence of Evelyn Nesbitt Thaw since the shooting of Stanford White, about twenty-five years ago. And then Spe tries to end it all with poison.. Yea, verily the way of the transgressor is hard. Which reminds us of a Parisian ™ beauty a few years ago, who had everything that this world could pro- vide, even to a beautiful yacht. One day she was enjoying a cruise and suddenly realizing that-She had noth- ing to look forward to, as she would soon start to go down hill, she leaped from the yacht and her body was. found some time later.
