THE MIRROR UP-TO-DATE SPORTS (Continued from page 3) Mirrorettes. Frank Carson arrived in town last Sunday. He received such a welcome that he had to adopt the (Prince of Wales) method of hand-shaking--hy using the left hand. Brother Bill joined the Irish ranks by signing with the St. Pats. Sure Mike Rodden will feed him greens next winter from New York. The Crown A. A. will field the strongest outfield in the city league. Mickey McPhee states that Babe Ruth would never crash one past his outfield. Boyd Lavelle will wear a Crown A. A. uniform this summer. He shouid have the Indian sign on Bill Girby's Redskins. Gordon Rankin is the (Candy Kid) chairman for lacrosse. Fans may be sure of some sweet games. Sport executives this year have in- jected new blood in every branch. This should have the needed result of satisfying some optimists. Did you notice that the east-end is better represented this year than ever--look the list over. Norman Siegel wanted a rest this year. His popularity for work has to be continued as the fans would not here tell of him dropping right out? Bill Girby is out to get both cups but he states that he will get the Rotary Cup first and then battle for the Beacon-Herald trophy. Mitchell's baseball nine will make some of the local city leaguers step. A former Toronto pitcher is report- ed as Mitchell's main stay. We've seen many a Queen City twirler blow- up. Lacrosse fans and players be sure and turn up at the Chamber of Com- merce rooms on Monday at 8 p. m. Open meeting; Come and say some- thing. : Geo. Sugden states that Dufferin Park is in fine shape and all senior and junior players desirious of a work-out turn up at 2:30 for soccer practice. Albert Smith will put his s. AeA BL soccer squad to work on Saturday af- ternoon at the Collegiate Flats. All W. F. A. players interested be on hand. On Monday ae TA city leagues foot- ball entries will close. YOUR LAST CHANCE--So beat it to the Chamber of Commerce and enter your team. A Tip To The Indians. An ardent supporter has promised to attend all games with lemonade. Big Chief Girby will serve it out. Crown A. A. have signed Norfolk, Foote, McPhee, Cook, Flanigan, Fer- guson, Schneider, Moore and Lavelle. D. P. A. A. will hold a meeting on Monday night. Chester Hill started in as director of softhall with a bang. Business from the drop of the hat. Sure to make good. BILL CARSON FORSAKES SIMON PURES FOR ST. PATS. The Indians will be without the ser- vices of Doc. this coming winter, as he has signed up with Mike Rodden. True we are losing the most stellar centre man in the Big Six, as well as the best stick-handler and a goal get- ter and one of the most effective in- dividual or combined players that you would wish to watch. Rodden knows the sort of players who will make the grade in the pro- fessional ranks for his selection of the local dentist as the first on his: string indicates. He will have the best at all costs, as the Queen City must have a winning team to compete with the opposition if they care to be a finan- cial success. 'Roy Brother's loss of his pivot | player will be taken by a high-class performer, whose name will be divul- ged ata later date. Stratford fans | regret the loss sustained by the sen- | iors but all fans must admit that op- portunity only knocks at the door once. So good luck to Bill and may his cheque run higher than some of the exaggerated figures which we have heard of being offered to Green Hockey players. All local fans wish him every success-- and why should they not. Eddie Petrie has joined up with Bill Girby's Indians. Long Pants For Little Fellows 4-Piece Suits Coat, Vest, Knicker and Long Pants. ES * * Speaking of the late snowstorms, we have just been looking up some 'of our records and find that on the 19th and 20th of April, 1901, We were presented with about 15 inches of snow. The following day the sun came out bright and strong and the snow disappeared about as quickly as it had come. * * * On April 29th, 1909, citizens were startled about noon by severe light- ning and heavy thunder during a heavy snow storn, mixed with rain. Nearly eight inches of snow lay on the ground by evening and the wind increased into a gale. We attended the Opera House that night to wit- ness "Parsifal'" and we will never for- get the journey home, as "Taxis" at that time were unknown, and the cabs were all filled before we got out of the opera. s Bd * We, with many others, mourn the loss of the late Tommy Dunn. Tom was our neighbor when he first came to Stratford. and although of an un- assuming and more or less reserved nature, he was always a very genial. sort of fellow. We met him on Sun- day afternoon, just the day before his sudden and untimely end, and it was hard to believe the report of his- death the following day, and recalled again the words so often quoted by the Canon of a church we attended some years ago: "In the midst of life Wwe are in death." a | | on hardwood flooring, as we -------- i ROUTINE STUFF Frosh (to fraternity brother) "Someone wants you on the phone."
