THE MIRROR * Communication Editor of The Mirror, Stratford. Dear Sir,--In the last two issues of The Mirror your kindly comments on the activities of the Anne Hathaway Athletic Association were greatly ap- preciated by those who are interest- ed in the development of a suitabie playground for the young folks of our City. It may be of interest to Some of your readers to learn more about the association which was formed in Ap- ril of this year with the object of co- operating with the Park Board in maintaining and developing the grounds. As soon as the weather per- mitted the association began opera- tions by planting a row of maple trees aliaround the park. After the trees were planted the work was started on the tennis courts, two of which have been completed and are in use every day. The Board of Edu- cation offered to donate the play- ground equipment that had been used the year previous by Shakespeare sckool. The offer was accepted and the equipment is now in operation, A visit to the park any time during the day or evening will show how well the swings and other things are ap- preciated by the little ones, We still have pdenty of room for more equip- ment and a hint may be sufficeint. The committee wouid be glad to ac- cept any donations of equipment that could be put to the use of the children. We are also. planning to begin work on a bowling green adjoining the tennis courts. The baseball sdiamond has been laid out and can be played on any time. There are one or two softball diamonds that are being used almost every day, Football and lacrosse are also being practiced daily. The field is in good condition al- though a little uneven in spots. We have a beautiful frontage on Downie street which with a little la- bor could be made really attractive. - Tt has been suggested that privileges be given to anyone to select a piot and plant shrubs. or lay out flower beds. No doubt there are many peo- ple who would feel disposed to assist us in making this spot a place of beauty as it is on one of the main entrances to our city. We feel that a little extra work here will be well repaid by the impression it will make on visitors coming to our city by this route. Before closing I may say we are making an effort to hold a band con- cert in the near future at whics we hope to meet a large proportion of our citizens. Your truly, SYBIL HILL, Recording Secretary. No man can escape criticism or risk either or both. You can never be en- tirely blameless or entirely safe. So why worry? Danger is:a tonic, It is a necessity to a vigorous and active inner life. Yor can never learn to be a good loser until you lose. C.N.R. Band Renders Fine Musical Program Under the direction of C. A. Bird, Bandmaster of the C.N.R. There were others more nimble of tongue, Who were sure to be present when- ever There were self-plucked bouquets to be flung. In fact, in a place of such polish and grace The only thing under the sun To distinguish the lad was a way that he had Of getting things done. He never was gifted at swelling Plain facts with a stuffing of pride--- Like some, so much occupied selling Themselves, they sell little beside. He seemed somehow to lack that most eoveted knack Of explaining, as other men could: And so, to dispense with the need of preense He simply made good. The society chaps thought him zero, The poker crowd termed him a loss. They all disregarded our hero, Excepting just dne man--the boss. And so you may guess they were loud with distress And agreed in pronouncing it tough When he passed the whole clan to pick out the one man Who'd delivered the stuff!
