Some er ee pa Saw nieaver: soe a very boorl ae , conception of what really constitutes | Fe policeman's duty. Some think he is generally tio stern and pretentious; but if he act- ed like a private citizen and made himself appear as a good fellow with every Tom, Dick and Harry, there would be other citizens who would consider him unfit for his duty. This makes a policeman's life rather unen- vious. It is a mistake also to think he has the law in his own hands, be- eause he has not. He is not a maker of laws but a preserver of the laws that have been enacted, whether wise or otherwise. He may be called up- on to do unpleasant things, according to his own opinion; but he never for gets that his opinion counts as noth- ing in the eyes of the law. Again, law may not always be justice, but the poor policeman cannot help that, for he is always under the stern ne- cessity of doing his duty and obeying 'DON'T MISS IT!
