THE MIRROR Local Interest Mr. Cornell is the new manager of the Mason & Risch branch here, hav ing moved here from Sarnia. He and his family are residing at 101 Church street. Mr. and Mrs. Cornell are very favorably impressed with Strat- ford, and feel sure the citizens will reciprocate by extending to them a hearty welcome to our city. Rey. Johnston, of the Talbot Street Baptist Church, London, most accept- ably occupied the Ontario Street Bap- tist Church last Sunday, beginning evangelistic services which are con- tinuing all week. As-usual the choir of the church sang well. There are few choirs, indeed, whose enunciation is quite so clear,' or who sing with greater feeling than does the choir of this church. The solo was well taken in the morning anthem by Boyd Neal, while Howard Barker sang most pleasingly the obligato solo in one of the anthems sung during the evening service. The choir reflects much credit on Prof. H. A. Clark, the leader and organist. In the November issue of Mayfair appears the picture of Mrs. Ralph James Pequegnat, who was a Sep- tember bride and a prominent so- ciety: lady, formerly Margaret Bur- 'net Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert H. Stevens, Port El- gin, Ontario, Mr. Pequegnat is a son of Mr, and Mrs. Joseph U. Peq- uegnat, of Guelph. Mr. Pequegnat is a cousin of Mr. Nelson Pequegnat, one of the city's progressive busi- ness. men. The board of trade are banquet- ing the Huron Track Association next Wednesday evening. The Smith-Ingram fight at the City Council meeting Monday night, it is said, was quite realistic. A scrimmage in the council tends to relieve the monotony and_ bring back to mind the days of yore when a council] meeting was as novel then without a wrangling as one is now with it. However, we did not hear who was called winner in the argu- ment but do think that there would ~ have been about as much sense in throwing $1,800 on the Mornington Road, or amy road, as there would have been in spending $1,800 on im- provements on the house on Fal- staff street, owned by the city. How- ever, some improvements should have been. made in this house dur- ing'the time the city collected rent from the tennants, who occupied it. City fathers certainly were guilty of neglect in this case, at any rate, and for many years the house, as it ig called, has not been a fit place to live in. J. H.
