es "THINK INCENDIARY BOMB WAS PLACED Another Incendiary Attempt on Part of Wentworth Maniac Is Hinted. HAMILTON, Ont., Oct. 29--(CP)-- What is believed to have been an- other incendiary attempt 7n the part of the maniac who caused . thé series of fires in Wentworth County came to light today. Yesterday threshing was in progress at the farm of Edgar Horden,. West Flaim- boro. The chute of the threshing machine was belching out straw "upon the stack when suddeniy three jets of flame burst from the pipe. The operator acted quickly and dropped the pipe till the nozzle was buried deep in the solid part of the straw stack and the flames were ~ extinguished before much damage Was done. Bystanders voiced the theory that some sort of incendiary bombs had been placed in the grain to be threshed. A sulphurous odor filled the air after the jets of flame oc- curred. » Mrs. Morden stated this morning that the same day of the Johnson Tew fire, a man had driven into their lane and entered the Morden barn. She saw the man re-appear quickly and drive hurriedly away. It was thought that he may have - placed some kind of inflammable material in the straw, or the thresher. _ BISHOP CONSECRATED IN COLORFUL RITUAL Solemn Ceremony Performed By Archbishop Stringer SASKATOON, Sask. CATHARINES, Ont., Oct. 29 (C P)--The smuggling of liquor from this district to American points received a setback early this morn- ing when Provincial Constable Mac- Kay and Preventive Officers Bell and Rayfeldt seized an automobile con- taining a case of beer and two men. John Simone and John Costinzo, both of Niagara Falls, N.Y. The of- ficers reached the scene of the sei- zure in time to see an aeroplane land, load with approximately nine- _ teen cases of beer and then fly off _. just before the machine could be added to the booty. The scene of the early morning _ activity was on the farm of John _ Smith, situated in Louth township om the Y between the Pelham road _ and the road to Rockaway. of The Need For Efficiency We are living at a tremendous rate! in this age of scientific discovery, of , higher education, of higher ideals and of deeper research. We are no} longer content with the humdrum, | the commonplace--not satisfied with' ordinary standards that were con-| sidered sufficient for our fathers AG grandfathers, | We are told to "get on "or to "set | out"--and the bitter doctrine of the' "survival of the fittest" is a prin-| ciple which is being clothed with grim reality in every department of life. The demand today is for fit- ness. Fitness in men, in machinery, in methods and apparatus. In other words, efficiency is the great de-| mand of the age. | If, therefore, the demand -for efi- ciency is so. real, so persistent, and, so effective in those matters which | relate to mundane things, the sus-) tenance of the body, the gaining of material wealth and prosperity, how much more should it be demanded and applied in those higher and deeper things, the things of the spirit --which are vastly more impcrtant than the evanescent things that re- late only to time and space?
