: | ii 1 | THE STRATFORD MIRROR | In The Realm of Sport Hockey game on Monday night-- Kitchener here--'nuff said. It looks like a "natural" coming out. Al- though the personnel of the two teams will be changed somewhat, the old rivalry will still be there, and the kids will probably renew the feud right where it was left off last year. Dave's kids have been training stead- ily since they were eliminated from | the S. P. A. race, and they will have no alibis to offer, and are not likely to need any. The Midgets' first two games are tough ones. After meeting Kitchener here on Monday night they journey to Brantford on Thursday night. There won't be another junior game here until December 22, when Hamilton provides the opposition. oh * * - Fromthe way Young Rangers have been cleaning up on the opposition in the S. P. A> finals, it looks as if the Midgets need not feel ashamed of the Score which eliminated them from the jinx cup series.. St. Michael's College is three goals down for the second game of the series tomorrow, and it begins to look like curtains for the Irish. They're both hand-picked out- fits, and will likely be somewhere in the vicinity when the O. H. A. is ar- ranging its junior playdown sched- ules. _ : * * &* ' Brantford Red Sox will be the first team to visit Stratford "in the new Senior "B" group. The Sox will be in Stratford on Thursday of next week. Although the addition of Western Uni- versity and St. Michael's College of Toronto adds new blood and color to the group, it also means two long hops for the locals--especially the trip to Toronto. They have to make it only ;onee, however, and probably the change of atmosphere will be worth , the trip. * * * Western U, with Jimmy Rankin on the defence, should draw good attend- ance when they play here.. The Irish- men from St, Mike's should also be a good attraction. Brantford and Galt are oldtimers here. They generally put up the kind of battle that has the boys bumping their heads off. * * * As soon as a little harmony and co- hesion can be injected into the ranks of the "Bee" team here, they should start to get places, although they are greatly handicapped by lack of an ex- perienced goal-tender. With the new rules which permit forward passing in all areas, the goalies this year will have to be smart-on the close-in play. .The net guardian who likes them from away out is going to be out of luck. a * * In securing for Stratford the annual tournament of the Western Ontario Badminton Association, the newly organized Stratford Badminton Club has done something which should do much toward establishing the sport in Stratford even more solidly than has been done in the past few years. It also brings to the at- tention of outside centres the fact that Stratford is so well established as a badminton centre that it is worthy of this important tournament. * * oo Tomorrow night amateur wrestling will hold the centre of the sport stage, with a good card over at the armouries. The boys will grapple un- der pro rules, so. there should be plenty of action. While they may not 'be as adept at the aft of grunting, grogning and make-believe, they are in there to win, and that's something of which the fans never were assured in some of the pro cards which have been staged around here in the past. Shades of Bob Ling! ay ee It looks as if the "Y" Aces, the Edu- cated Ducks, and the Night Hawks of St. Marys are assured of play-off berths in the Stratford and District Basket- ball League. There may be some ar- gument over fourth place, but the aforementioned appear to be in there. The first and third, second and fourth teams play in the semi-finals, with the winners meeting for the champion- ship of the first half. The winners of the second half of the schedule will meet the winners of the first half for the league championship. oe * * A lot of Stratford fans would like to journey down to Sarnia tomorrow afternoon to see the Canadian rugby finals. They'll probably be content, however, with hearing the game over the air. Those who have given their moral support to the Argos will prob- ably switch tomorrow and pull for the Imperials. It's a case of the small town versus the hogtown, with the small town getting the popular sup- port. Sarnia hasn't been getting the breaks, owing to the decision of Vars- ity to drop out of the Canadian title chase. The long lay-off is going to the toughest obstacle which the oilers will have to overcome, * * * When the rugby laurels are handed out, do not overlook St. Thomas, The Railway City entry has captured an- other provincial intermediate title, and now the Jackets are on their way to Dominion honors again. More power to them. They have developed a lot of rugby materia] down around the Elgin County metropolis. They wear their crown modestly and their teams are a credit to the city. telat:
