It is because The Canadian National Institute for the Blind proved in times of peace that capable blind men and women were competent factory work- ers, that so many of them are now being employed in war work. Frequently, in recent months, many Canadian papers have published pic- tures of blind workers in war plants. The interesting thing is, of course, that men without their sight can do a useful job, but it is also of interest that almost without exception, these blind workers were placed in their re- munerative employment by the place- ment officers of The Canadian Nation- al Institute for the Blind. There would be mighty few blind people working if it were not for the C.N.L.B. The provision of employment and the finding of jobs is not the only im- portant work of the C.N.IL.B. After all, only a comparatively small pro- portion of the blind population can be regularly employed and for the others The Institute provides a variety of Services which are designed to make life tolerable for them. Everything that' The Institute does and every service which the blind re- ceive, depends on the financial sup- port obtained from the public. The tremendously important and humani- tarian work of The Canadian National Institute for the Blind can be devel- oped if men and women blessed with Perth Advisory Board. REINHARDT -- SMYTHE Rev. C.
