'The new rooms are planned as a temporary centre, for use during the next four or five years. The commit- tee members, however, agreed with Trustee J. A. Mott, that its appoint- ments should be the most modern that can be obtained, so-they can be trans- ferred to the permanent centre when it is established. ~The rooms to be used have been in- spected by G. N. Edwards, public school inspector; J. H. Skene, manual training teacher; Miss Lila Finlay, household science teacher,.-and him- self, Trustee H. A. Showalter told the committee. A specialist from a Water- loo company has been invited to sub- mit a plan for the department. Estimates on the cost of equipment which they think is needed in the new departments were received from two teachers. They were $1,827 for the household science room and $968 for the manual training room. Mr. Sho- walter suggested that "we might add 50 per cent. to both of these estimates and still not be out of line." . Permission to inspect manual train- ing and household science depart- ments in other schoels was given Miss Finlay and Mr. Skene. The board will pay their expenses. D. E. McKinnon, superintendent of the C.N.R. motive power shops, was appointed a member of the board's vo- cational committee, replacing J. W. Bailey, who is leaving the city. Non-Appearance of Nazis Mystifies Air Marshal OTTAWA, June 9 (CP)3 -- Air Marshal Robert Leckie, chief of air staff, suggested in a broadcast ad- dress that the Nazi general staff was "badly out-guessed" in the in- vasion and placed its strategic air reserves "far away in-some other locality where they anticipated our invasion blow would be more likely to fall." Speaking on the "headquarters report" program over a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation national network, he said: 'T amyas mystified as you are Over the non-appearance of the Luftwaffe. I am certain there are many German fighter squadrons held in reserve but the fact that the United Nations have obtained and are enjoying absolute local air supremacy ever "the béaches makes me suspect that the Hun has been badly out-guessed and that. the much-vaunted German genéral staff has lundered badly and placed its strategic air reserve far away in some other locality where they anticipated our invasion blow would be more likely to fall. Hard to keep from spilling .. but how about giving the next new box of powder a new treatment. Punch several small holes with a-fine knitting needle in the paper covering ... then shake gently on your puff. Just enough will come out for camouflage opera- tions. Spot of De-Spotting Just try replacing linens these days and you'll find you have a new respect for the ones you already have. Watch out for spots and stains and remove on the double. Fresh Ink Stains: Get out as much as possible with cool clear water. Then use salts of lemon (oxalic aeid) ac- cording to directions. Peroxide with a pinch of ammonia will sometimes do the trick: Old ink stains are prac- tically impossible to remove, so don't let a new stain become an old one. Light Scorch Marks: Rinse in clear, cool water. The sun will help you out on this if given half a chance. Deep scorch marks are there for life. Rust: Salts of lemon again. Fruit Stains: Rinse immediately in clear cool water, let soak in lemon juice or white vinegar and water. Salts of lemon in stubborn cases. Nail Polish: Nail polish remover will remove the gumminess if the ma- terial is linen or cotton (nail polish removers are not for rayons) ...a bleach will remove the colour. And incidentally, all the above rules apply to linen and cotton fabrics only. The general rules are: --get after the stain immediately. --keep the water cool or tepid. --never use soap or hot water until all stain has gone. --rinse out chemicals, salts of lemon, peroxide, 'ammonia, javel, thorough- ly if you don't want damaged fibres and a weak spot to appear later. Cress Reporting for Duty Watercress leaves are very tender and take a very poor view of rough treatment. Stored in with lettuce and other greens watercress will.crush and break easily. Keeps happy in your ser- vice, washed and stored in a closed sealer in the refrigerator. Moroso, Associated Press war correspondent, reported from an invasion port yesterday that al- though "the assault was widely hailed as the largest in history, it actually was no larger in its in- itial phases than-the Allied attack on Sicily." Moroso witnessed both the land- ings in Sicily and in North Africa. "Weather prophets were the worst flops," he said. "Wind and a choppy Channel almost caused disaster."
