He is a mem- ber of the Ontario Street Baptist Church. A member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Semn. Jerome Joseph Anthony Bannon is a son of Mrs. Henry Weiss, 130 Avondale ave., and the late John Bannon. He was born in Stratford on July 3, 1922, and re- ceived his education at St. Joseph's separate school and at the Stratford Collegiate-Vocational Institute. Prior to enlisting for active service with the signal corps as a reinforcement troop in September, 1942, Sgmn. Bannon was employed at the Stratford Chair Com- pany and the Bell Telephone Company of Canada. He is a single man. There is one sister, (Eileen) Sister St. Rob- ert, Toronto, who is visiting in the city at present. Sgt. Birmingham was born in Strat- ford 25 years ago. He was educated at St. Joseph's Separate School and the Stratford Collegiate-Vocational Insti- ture and later worked at the Imperial Rattan and for the International Nickel Co., Sudbury. He joined the R.C.A.F. in North Bay on June 1, 1943, trained at Manning Depot in Toronto, Trenton and Mac- Canadians Employ Many New Tactics At Caen Front OTTAWA, Aug. 18.--(CP)--Nov- elties of tactics introduced by the Canadian Army in the assault at Caen in Normandy were described yesterday by John Grierson, gov- ernment film commissioner who has just returned from a visit to the front. Some of the things never done before and successfully done by the Canadians were the use of artillery as markers for bombers, sending bombers in to prepare the way for the assault during dark- ness and sending the infantry into action in armored vehicles. Mr. Grierson said the Canadian army was confident in its weapons and in the mathematical planning of its operations. donald, Man. According to the word received by his parents, Pte. Chalmers was miss- ing in action on Aug. 6. He had ar- rived overseas on July 2 and a letter received from him on July 22 indicat- ed he was in France. But 18 years of age, Pte. Chalmers wene overseas as a_ reinforcement troop for the Essex Scottish Regiment and subsequently was transferred to the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Previously a member of the 2nd Re- serve Battalion of the Perth Regi- ment, Pte. Chalmers made rapid ad- vancement with that unit.
