VER FIF: TY YEARS Home lovers take great pride in their homes when visitors come to see them. They like to feel that their home is cosy and hospitable--that all is in order and everything tidy. Under such circumstances they enjoy to the full the visits of their friends. EE Just Among Ourselves A regular department conducted for Mirror reader by Ina St. John. LEARN BY DOING Dear Miss St. John: My girl, age 14, is taking Domestic Science now at school. The things she makes are simple but they aren't ever good. She made a garment last. I had to do it over completely when she brought it home, it was that badly sewn, and it didn't fit good. Don't you think the time would be better spent at geography or arithmetic? MRS. MIKE. Everyone has to learn to sew, Mrs, Mike. Probably the garment was quite a satisfactory effort for a girl that age. It will discourage her for you to do the work over. When she is grown up she will have to depend on you to do her sewing. Isn't it better for her to make her mistakes now and learn to sew by sewing? The Domestic Science courses in our schools are a great help in pro- ducing the good housewives of to- morrow. Be patient with your daugh- ter and her teacher, Mrs. Mike. INA ST. JOHN. FORGIVE HIM? Dear Ina St. John: I have a bitter problem to discuss with you. I"ll make up some points so my friends won't recognize the situa- tion. The basic points are here. I have been married five years. My husband was very good to me before he went into the army a little over a year ago. We have two children and a nice little home. I felt I couldn't break up our home to go with my hus- band. He got home fairly frequently and with the two children I am very busy. The last time he was home he told me that he wants a divorce. It seems he has been seeing a great deal of a woman whose husband is overseas, and she has two children, too. Hers are girls, and my husband always loved little girls. Ours are boys. He has always loved them, too. Anyway I was so astonished and heartbroken I told him never to come back again. What hurt me worse than anything was thinking that I had trusted him all that time he was leading a double life. Last week he wrote me asking to be forgiven, and couldn't he come home on his next week-end. He says the woman's husband is home from over- seas and that she has decided it was a mistake about being in love with my husband. She won't have anything to do with him. He says he's had time to think things out, and it's me he loves and the children. Miss St. John, I don't think I could -- ---- ever trust him again. However, I had never started to try to get a divorce because it would be a scandal around town. Should I tell him to come home again? I've been telling everyone that he couldn't get home on week- ends because he expected to go over- seas. No one would suspect that he was untrue to me except our closest friends. They tell me to take him back. What shall I do? HEARTBROKEN. Answer: It's obvious you still love your husband, Heartbroken. In fact you were hoping for something like this to turn up, weren't you? By all means tell him to come home. It's pretty certain to be his only philan- dering. You've had this warning. You'll be alert against a recurrence of this kind. There's no reason you shouldn't have a happy time. It's worth trying for your sons' sakes, INA ST. JOHN. Everyone is the son of his own works.--Victor Hays.
