ANDY ZIMMERMAN CARPENTRY 36 Britannia Phone 1086M Louis, Conn Ready For Big Battle With interest in the world's heavy- weight championship bout at fever pitch, ears will be glued to the dial when the clash is aired Wednesday, June 19, and shortwaved throughout the world. The eagerly awaited match with Joe Louis, who is de- fending his title against Billy Conn, will také place at the Yankee Stadi- um in New York. This bout will be the second meet- ing for the contestants. Their first clash was five years ago in June, 1941. During the intervening years both men have served with the U.S. army. Louis and Conn, who started light training in January and heavy train- ing in April, both appear to be in the pink and rarin' to go. At Pomp- ton Lakes, N.J., Louis has been go- ing through his paces with sharp rights and lefts to the punching bag and sizzling rounds of sparring as part of his daily routine. Conn, who tips the scale at 188 pounds, has been having similar workouts at his camp in Greenwood Lake, N.J. At the ringside ABC microphone will be two personalities, familiar to Friday night fight fans. They are Don Dunphy and Bill Corum, both dyed-in-the-wool sports experts. Dunphy, who has always been a sports enthusiast and has been broadcasting sports since 1933, will bring listeners the blow-by-blow description. Corum, who covers. all sports events for the Journal-Ameri- can, will give the between-rounds color in his own personalized off- the-record pictorial style. MOTHER AND CHILD DOING WELL In an Ontario township there is a mother, aged fifteen, currently re- ceiving the baby bonus on account of an infant to whom she gave birth not long since. The mother's mother is at the same time receiving the baby bonus on account of her erring daughter. If the fifteen-year-old girl had acquired a lawful husband she would have deprived her mother of the $8.00 per month. A cynic sug- gests that perhaps the _ infant's father's mother also may be getting the bonus on his account, but there is a regrettable lack of exact infor- mation on that point. -- Christian Business Men To Banquet Following an inaugural meeting last March 30, at which Paul B. Fischer, of Chicago, was the guest speaker, a committee composed of Carl B. Murray, Arthur J. Chambers, J. Keith Spackman, Dr. P. Gordon MacKenzie and Glen Bain have been organizing a Stratford unit of the Christian Business Men's Commit- tee International. Great progress has been made and much local interest shown. A ban- quet has now been arranged for Thursday evening, June 13, at 6.45 p.m. in the Y.M.C.A. Gordon Bish, business executive from Galt, will be the guest speaker and a male quartet from the Kitchener commit- tee will supply the music. Following the banquet the annual business meeting and election of officers will be held. : : The aim of this organization is an association of Christian business men of Evangelical faith whose pur- pose is to further the application of Christ's teachings in the business world. Membership application forms containing the doctrinal statement which members are required to sub- scribe to are now ready and may be obtained from any member of the temporary committee. Any man de- sirous of enjoying the fellowship of this banquet is asked to notify the secretary, J. Keith Spackman, 220 Cobourg Street, telephone 2291W, not later than Tuesday, June 11. NEW LABOUR LAWS NEEDED (Continued from page 1) . erning the relationship between em- ployers and labour. If the government does not heed the warnings and draft legislation that will offer sane, impartial and irrevocable arbitration now, it may find itself forced to move later when the pressure of labour strife is so strong that proper consideration of the issues involved will be out of the question.
