The Price of Wheat The great mse in the price of wheat means hundreds of thousands of dollars to our Canadian farmers. Those who have held their wheat up to the pre- sent time are the fortunate ones. The Mailand Empire, looking after the interests of its readers, and having every source of information at its com- mand, commenced last July and has ever Bince been informing its subscrib- ers that wheat would rise. Each week inthe Mail and Empire the facts were given, and the advice that wheat would be stiil higher, and from the day of our first notification up to the pre- sent time the increase has been over 20 cents a Vushel. The Mail has always been noted for | Dew its correct market reports, and for the therough manner in which it bas al- ways sifted out facts for the beuetit of its readers. The present -- instance shows ina strong light the benefit of such work, and the grent advantage a man derives from being a reader of the Mail. You can have the Weekly Mail and Empire and the Sranparp both for one year for $1:30. Send supscrip:tious to this office. Wiarton is agitating for another rail- way to connect with the OC. P. R. THE BIG CONCERN OF MABLEY DIFFICULTIES, Detrcit, Mich., Nov. 23.--Mubley & Co,, one of the leading clothing firms of the city, this morning filed « chat- tel mortgage for $150,000 to the Union Trust Company, as trustees for their creditors. A blanket mortgage cov- ering the entire stock of clothing» boots and shoes, men's furnishings, etc., was also made to the same com- pany. In the Circuit Court this morning Judge Donovan appointed the Union Trust Company receivers, with power to at once take possession of the stcre and carry on the business in accordance with the terms of the chattel tgag The indet of the firm isa little less than $400,- 000. Chesley Free Pree vember 18th, the rumble of distant 'thunder was heard in Chesley and vi- cinity, and about 9 o'clock there were several heavy cracks and some very sharp flashes of lightning. The at- mosphere wasas belmy~as June, and almost led one to think that summer was still upon us. The lightning struck the barn of Mr. Joseph Ste- phenson, lot 21, on the 7th con. of the township of Elderslie. It was totally destroyed, together with all his grain and feed, cne calf, two vows, imple- ments, ete. He had some insurance, but will be a heavy loser. A few miles further south, in the township of Brant, lot '31, 5th con., the fine barn of Mr. Joseph Gcethman, was also struck by the electric fluid and totally destroyed, together with his crop. His loss is also partially coy- ered by insurance. Much regret is expressed by these gentlemen's neigh- borsand friends at the heavy losses which have overtaken them at this sea- son of the year. It is a remarkable occurrence for barns to be destroyed by lightning at this season of the year. 400 Deserted Wives.
