"GOOD HEALTH FOR YOUNG eis They Need the New Blood Dr. Wil- Tiams' Pink Pills Actually Make, Perhaps you have noticed that daughter in her "teens" has eloped a fitful temper, is rest- less and excitable. That she com- 'plains of weakness and depression, feels tired out after a little exer- tion, appetite variable, complains -hadaches and is growing pale. In that case remember that the march of time is leading her on to woman- hood, and that at this period a great -vresponsibility rests upon mothers. These are symptoms of anaemia-- that is bloodlessness, and no time should be lost in increasing and en- riching the blood supply. Unheal- _ thy girlhood almost always leads to unhealthy womanhood. All young girls in their teens need the help of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, which en- rich and increase the blood supply, and give sickly drooping girls the brightness and charm of perfect health. In proof of this Miss Zola Gordier, Morrisburg, Ont., says: "T was pale and bloodless and puf- fered from many of the symptoms of anaemia. I would tire easily and suffered from frequent headaches. ~My appetite was poor and I was very pale and easily discouraged. The medicine I was taking did not seem to help me, and then one day I read the story of a young girl who suffered similarly and was cured through the use of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. I got three boxes of the pills and started to take them. Be- fore they were done I began to feel better and look better. Then I got half a dozen more boxes, and be- fore they were all used I was en- joying the best of health, and have continued to do so since. My young brother was troubled with rheuma- tism, and they completely cured him." Dr. Williams' Pink Pills are sold by all medicine dealers or can be had by mail at 50 cents a box or six boxes for $2.50 from The Dr. Wil- liams' Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont. oy. Ss __ REVERSIBLE WINDOWS. "Why, Bridget, you surely don't consider these windows washed?' said the lady of the house, reproach- fully. "Sure, I washed 'em nicely on the inside, mum, so ye can look out," replied Bridget; "but I intintion- ally lift thim a little dirty on the outside so thim ignorant Jones chil- dren-nixt door couldn't look in." SDISTINCTION, "Pop !??) "Yes, my son."' "When a man talks a great deal what is he called?' *'An orator, my boy." "'And when a woman talks a good deal, what is she called ?" -- A nuisance." A Pill for Brain Workers.--The man who works with his brains is more liable to derangement of the digestive system than the man who works with his hands, because the one calls upon his nervous energy while the other applies only his muscular strength. Brain fag be- gets irregularities of the stomach and liver, and the best remedy that _- ean be used is Parmelee's Vegetable - Pills. They are specially com- pounded for such cases and all those who use them can certify to 'their superior power. Broke Out on Face when Twelve or Thirteen. _ Were Most Embarrassing. Had Tried Everything, ; Nova Scotia girl, Miss Mabel Morash, of Dover West, writes: "When I was about twelve or thirteen years of age, my face broke out with pimples, and I tried every- thing to get rid of them, but failed. Plucky Act of a Native Sportsma: in India. ' A notable native sportsman, Kun- war Anaud Singh, brother of \the Raja of Kashipur, recently had a remarkable encounter with a leop- pard at Kashipur in Haini Tal dis- trict, India. The Kunwar Sahib was out shogt- ing and unexpectedly came on a leopard about a hundred yards dis- tant from him. He fired with his 280 Ross rifle, using a hollow nosed bullet. The bullet struck the beast on the ribs and knocked him down, but apparently it did him no vital damage. The Kunwar Sahib and his atten- dant, all on foot, followed up the wounded animal to some long grass, from which the leopard charged, making for one of the attendants. To save his follower the Kunwar Sa- hib, who is conspicuous in a family famous for personal bravery, shout- seca drew the leopard on to him- self, As the brute charged him the Kunwar Sahib fired at him again with his 280. The hollow bullet this time simply burst on the skin with- out stopping the leopard, and the war Sahib was left unprotected against the furious animal, which leaped upon him and bit him on the brow and cheek, The Kunwar Sahib never lost his presence of mind, and courageously put both his hands into the animal's mouth and held its jaws open. Then followed a struggle between man and leopard which resulted in the leopard being thrown to the ground, and the Kunwar Sahib, getting his hunting knife from his attendant, who had come to his as- sistance, despatched it. In the tussle, in addition to the bites on the face, the Kunwar Sa- thib received some bad wounds in the hand, but medical assistance was speedily available, and he is progressing satisfactorily. ye FIRST STEP. Kernaghan, Cart- wright, Man., says: "I always use Baby's Own Tablets and find them an excellent remedy for little ones."? Thousands of other mo- thers say the same thing, simply be- cause they have found the Tablets the best medicine to give their little ones to make teething easy; to ex- pel worms; relieve constipation and to make baby plump, healthy and strong. The Tablets are sold by medicine dealers or by mail at 25 eents a box from The Dr. Wil- liams' Medicine Co., Brockville, Ont. Me. WONDERS OF THE DEAD SEA. Motor Boat Exploration by Mem- bers of Colony in Jerusalem. An interesting trip around the Dead Sea was made in a motor boat by Jacob E. Spafford, a member of the American colony in Jerusalem, says the Geographical Journal. _In cireumnavigating the lake four or five vary fertile plains or ghors were met with. "These plains," writes Mr. Spafford, "naturally bring to mind the connection of the Dead Sea with Sodom and Gomor- rah, the 'cities of the plain,' that were overthrown. They have been variously placed on every side of the sea. "These plains and the small oasis at Engedi are the only points where life of any kind and water are to be found. Engedi, our first stopping place, is the only spot on the west This evidently was a little paradise in the time of Solomon and is fre- quently mentioned in the Old Testa- ment. "The cliffs on the west side of the sea which form an almost unbroken wall, excepting for the rugged tor- rent beds, and which vary from 300 to 1,900 feet in height are all of limestone, whereas on the east. side of the lake the formation is entirely sandstone of exquisite hues. The abundance of water on this side as compared with the other is very striking too. "About ten miles from Engedi lies the peerless natural fortress of Masada (Sebbeh), first fortified by the Maccabees, then used as a place of refuge by Herod. At the foot of the table and can be seen the Ro- man wall of circumvallation and the two Roman camps on either side of the small ravine. "The fortress, which is 1,700 feet above the sea, has steep sides at about an angle of 75 degrees and cannot be approached, except from a connecting neck called the Ser- pentine. A more inhospitable place or one more disadvantageous to be- siegers could not be imagined. "Right miles away is Jebel Us- dum, a mountain of rock salt rising to a height of 500 feet. In this mountain is a-large cave which was explored to the extent of about 200 yards, at which point a tapering cylindrical shaft of about 20 feet in diameter was discovered, piercing the solid rock salt 80 feet high, as though through polished marble, evidently the effects of the rain. "Great snow white stalactites hung from the ceiling. The ap- proach to this mountain presents most fantastic appearances of wails, buttresses, parapets, projecting \towers, etc., caused by the stratifi- cation and lay of the salt boulders. 'A little south of Masada lies the hor-el-Mizra. Here and else- ound th le of Sodorn bolt of the rifle jamming, the Kun-. RULERS WITH MANY TITLES. Sultan of ---- Turkey "Has 82, German Emperor 75. Most of the crowned heads of Europe revel in a multiplicity of styles and dignities, but apart from mere peerages the ruler of the mightiest empire the world has ever seen has to be content with the sim- ple formula, "Edward VII., by the Grace of God of the United King- dom of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British dominions be- yond the seas King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India." Even in these titles the reference to the Britains over seas was added only on the present King's acces- sion, and the style of Emperor of India was conferred on the British sovereign late in Queen Victoria's reign, Beside his legal appellation King Edward had many lesser titles, but even these are not nearly so numer- ous as in the case of most foreign potentates. The full list of these dignities is: Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothe- say, Duke of Saxony, Prince of Co- burg and Gotha, Prince of Saxe- Coburg Saalfield, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, Prince of Wales, Earl of Chester, Duke of Lancaster and Earl of Dublin. All of these titles except the last two are of long standing. But long as the list appears, it is by no means as long as that of many an ordinary peer of the realm, the Duke of Argyll, for one, easily sur- passing it with twenty-seven sepa- rate titles. - When one turns to other mon- archs the list appears very trivial, the German Emperor, for instance, enjoying the luxury of seventy-five subordinate titles, the King of Spain forty-two, the Emperor of Austria sixty-one, the Sultan of Turkey eighty-two. The Sultan of Turkey's various styles are somewhat amusing to the western mind. He is of course Sul- tan and Kha-khan (high prince and lord of lords) to start with; then he claims sovereignty over most dis- tricts, towns, cities and states in the East, specifying each by name, and setting out with great elabora- tion in each of his various titles "all the forts, citadels, purlieus and neighborhood thereof"? in regular legal form, and finally his official designation ends, "sovereign also of divers other nations, states, peo- ples and races on the face of the earth."' All this is, of course, in addition to his high position as "head of the faithful,"? and "supreme lord of all the followers of the Prophet," "di- rect and only lieutenant on earth of Mohammed." The Emperor of Austria, the Pope, the Sultan of Turkey, the King of Portugal are all "King of Jerusalem." The Kings of Nor- way and of Denmark are both "Kings of the Goths and the Venns"; the Emperor of Austria and the King of Spain both call themselves "King of Galicia."' Of sovereigns who claim British territories, the worst offender is the young King of Spain. He is, among other things, "King of Gibraltar," "King of the East. Indies," "King of Oceania," "King of the, West In- dies'? and "King of India," the last title being also owned by the King of Portugal. %. DIFFERENT NOW. Since the Slugger, Coffee, Was Abandoned. Coffee probably causes more bil- iousness and so-called malaria than any one other thing--even bad cli- mate. (Tea is just as harmful as coffee because it contains caffeine, the drug in coffee). A Ft. Worth man says: <'T have always been of a bilious temperament, subject to malaria and up to one year ago a perfect slave to coffee. At times I would be covered with boils and full of ma- larial poison, was very nervous and had swimming in the head. "T don't know how it happened, but I finally became convinced that my sickness was due to the use of coffee, and a little less than a year ago I stopped coffee and began drinking Postum. "From that time I have not had a boil, not had malaria at all, have gained 15 pounds good solid weight and know beyond all doubt this is due to the use of Postum in place of coffee as I have taken no medi- cine at all. "Postum has. certainly made healthy, red blood for me in place of the blood that coffee drinking impoverished and made unhealthy." St. Yvon, Gaspe Co., Que., May 27 (Special)--Once more a wonder- ful cure has sent the name of the old Canadian Kidney Remedy ring- ing through the Province of Quebec. Mr. Ludger Cote, a well known re- sident of this place, is the man cured and the story of his cure in his own words is as follows: "For four years I suffered from Backache, stiffness of the joints and finally Bright's Disease. I could not bend my right leg on account of the pain in my hip and knee. I had terrible pains in the region of the bladder. My eyes were swollen. I was always tired and nervous ard took no pleasure in life. "Finally, I decided to try Dodd's Kidney Pills and the effect was marvellous. We CAT GUARDED BODY. pate Flew at an Intruder From Shoul- der of the Corpse. An astonishing tale of a cat's fidelity and sorrow--since cats are supposed to be less devoted to peo- ple than dogs--was told at a Chel- sea (England) inquest. The inquest was held on the body of Sarah Ann Turnroe, aged seven- ty, the widow of an artist, of Ger- trude Street, Chelsea, who was found dead in bed with the cat on her shoulder, Mrs. Turnroe ap- peared to be asleep, and when a boy touched hér the cat flew at him. Reared from kittenhood by Mrs. Turnroe, the cat--by name Minn® --had been her closest companion for fifteen years. By her last vigil Minnie showed that cats can be as faithful and loving as dogs. But the death of her mistress proved the death of the cat. The cat for days was inconsolable, and had to be drowned ag the most humane way to end its grief, At the inquest Mrs. Griffiths, at whose house Mrs. Turnroe lived, stated that when her little boy took Mrs. Turnroe an early morning cup of tea the cat was sitting on her shoulder. Seeing the boy, Minnie was roused to such an extraordi- nary fury in its attempts to pre- vent his approach to her dead mis- tress that she flew at the boy, knocking the teacup out of his hand. The cat was all black except for a white patch on her chest. She showed distress whenever Mrs. Turnroe went away for the day or two, calling dismally for the day to- gether. Mr. Turnroe died a year ago, and the cat then visibly grieved and moped for his death. When a doctor was called in to see the dead body of Mrs. Turnroe the cat was still on the bed--at the time at the feet of its mistress. Later in the day the body of Mrs. Turnroe was removed to a shell. Then the grief of the cat was piti- ful. resem EL They had been quarrelling, and, although hubby was willing to take the blame all upon himself and make peace, she was still snippy and indifferent. "Come over here, Bessie. Aren't you curious to know what is in this package?' "Oh, not very! I can stand the strain,"? she replied belligerently. "Well, it's something for the one I love best in all the world," he said coaxingly. "Oh, is that so? I sup- pose, then, it's those suspenders you said you needed !" The Beauty of a Clear Skin.--The condition of the liver regulates the condition of the blood. <A _ dis- ordered liver causes impurities in the blood and these show them- selves in blemishes on the skin. Parmelee's Vegetable Pills in act- ing upon the liver act upon the blood and a clear, healthy skin will follow intelligent use of this stand- ard medicine. Homing Instinct as Shown by Some Recent Experiments, _ Some remarkably interesting de- tails regarding the movements and the homing instinct of the edible crab were presented to the Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee, says the two years Fishery Inspector H. Donnison has been carrying out in- vestigations on behalf of the com- mittee, and the results of his work cannot fail to be of considerable use to those concerned in biological re- search. In the course of an exhaustive and September, 1910, nearly two thousand crabs were captured, and after being labelled were again set free along the Norfolk and Lincoln- shire coasts. The crabs had re- cently cast their shells, and new ones were then in process of hard- ening, Rewards were paid to fishermen upon returning the crabs when re- captured. They were returned to the sea at varying distances from the shore, and up to the present 21 per cent. of the labelled crustaceans had been recaptured and full data tabulated. With regard to the Norfolk crabs liberated in the places from which they were originally obtained, of their first home, but one travelled as far as Flamborough Head, a dis- tance of 98 statute miles. Nearly three hundred had travelled only three or four miles from where they were originally taken. vis. HAVE YOU A BAD SORE?
