A committee has been pointed to draw up a bylaw in this egard. The object no doubt is to encourage the building of new homes and a better class of homes, and the exemption of taxes would be a big inducement. It is a scheme worthy of the consideration of the officials of Listowel. = %; ” JUST SUPPOSE ! If all that we say In a single day. The mother replied that it would fit her for a position, should she want one. The girl replied ‘‘What sort of position?’ The mother jwas stumped by that question. She knew the value of an education, but those courses with which she was familiar did not fit anyone. If schools would give more practical courses and leave out some of the arts and sciences, atudents would be better off. ‘If more type- re should notice that the; ¥Titing., shorthand, practical arith- } metic and business courses were of- fered in high echool, pifpils would attend with more certainty of find- ing employment when they gradua- ted. Comparisons were made not only on the cost o ffeer, but also on the amount of ‘digestible nutrients consumed. In beth cases cows producing 9,000 pounds milk consumed approximately 40 percent more digestible nutrients and had a 40 percent higher feed cost than cows producing 4,500 pounds milk. But the story does not end simply with the cost of feed. What we are all interested in is profits. While feed costs increased 40 percent, the income over cost of feed was nearly trebled. When the cows were divid- ed into groups according to produc- tion, it was found In the group aver- aging 155 pounds fat that the cost of feed was $50 and the income over cost of feed was $834. In the group averaging 229 pounds fat, not quite double that of the previous group, the cost of feed: was $68 and the In- come over cost of feed was $96. The second group exceeded the first by 93 percent in the production of fat, by 36 percent in cost of feed, and by 182 percent in income over cost of feed. Trebling profits by doubling pro- duction ig_pretty good evidence that high production pays. ‘We have al- ways known this in a general way, but it is comforting to get evidence of such a character that it cannot be successfully controverted. It pays to feed the cow properly and keep records so that ome may solect the better ones for breeding, all of which ja concisely stated in .the slogan: “Feed, Weed, Breed.” —-Hoard’s Dairyman. » se i ee so oe ee os ee ee + + Yh THE RIGHTS OF . + ; Pa MOTORISTS + ~ + The great and insistent les-. + }} @on must be ht * |} taught again, until it 1s thor- + | Bios ly undérstood and heed-" + + ed b¥ all, that the M2 ge 10 % +. “e aay + + Coe ae + + + +.
